Alright, I've been thinking about this as an idea. Might fail but who gives a fuck.

So, we're constantly talking about moments in matches (not just Liverpool games) of importance - they can be goals, penalty decisions, tactical insights, whatever. Let's use this as a thread tio point them out.

I don't want this to be a re-run of Ibrahimovic slaloming through some wank Dutch defense 10 years ago for Ajax, or Gerrard's "you beauty", or some fucking amateur fussball player doing an overhead kick. It should be something you've picked up on during a game and felt it worth highlighting.

Here's my first. Hardly a standout, but it struck a chord in one way or another.

David Luiz's defending for Juve's 2nd goal that got Di Matteo sacked. Watch his effort after he's been turned. Unbelievable how shit and lazy this cunt is as a defender. Bear in mind Chelsea were only 1-0 down at this stage in a must-win game.

I'll bite, Ryan.

That is a pretty damning video of Luiz. I think this could be an interesting thread if it stays on point.

That clip is really damning of Luiz.

... or Gerrard's "you beauty"

Yet that game is worth mentioning because of the brilliance of one Florent Sinama-Pongolle in the second half. Gerrard got all the press for that screaming winner, but he was anonymous until Pongolle was brought on and sparked the team with his performance and turned things around. The real hero of that game was the kid, whom I still feel wasn't given a fair run of games by Benitez in his time here. Benitez got the subs in this game spot on though.

Tbf to Gerrard, in most of the interviews I've seen about that game, he's always quick to mention the importance of FSP and Mellor after they came on. It's also worth noting that taking off Djimi at half time and putting Riise left back gave us more stability and balance. Great second half.

This thread has already gone of topic but I do love that Ronaldinho clip.

I always spot things in games and then can't find the footage anywhere. I'll have a think and contribute soon.

I can't find a video of Stephen Fletcher's first touch for Sunderland's opener away to Fulham a few weeks back, otherwise it'd be in here.

By the way - this isn't a Messi compilation thread before anyone starts posting that shit. I want small but significant moments. Not some thing of that cunt running about doing the seal dribble in some goat-herding league in Ecuador.

His attitude after Vidal scores is even worse I think.

I'm not sure if this qualifies - but Italy beating Brazil 3-2 in the 1982 World Cup. This was when I was 12, and I think I cried when the final whistle blew.

When Rossi popped in the winner, it was the moment the magic of Brazilian samba football died (well, actually, when the referee called the end of the game). They'd still go on to produce good teams and great individuals and win the World Cup again of course, but I think that loss killed the free spirited play of the Brazilians forever and ushered in the pragmatism they needed to achieve success in later years.

Milan's 2nd goal in Istanbul.

It's Crespo who really does create this goal.

Kaka get's the ball, Crespo makes the run across the backline from one side to the other ... allows Shevchenko to run into the space he has vacated, Kaka puts the pass through ... Shevchenko then puts it across goal to Crespo at the back post. Pure class.

35 secs into the video

not the most tactical spot and most will remember it, but anyway i always loved Heskey cleaning out half the united wall !!

One for the archives - you don't see a moment like this too often. Traore crosses for Biscan to finish against Bolton and win it for us. I think that was the moment the cult of Biscan was formed (or its population exploded). He attacked the ball with a relish, like how he'd attack his pillow.

There was a game, last year I think, where Iniesta rescues a long ball out of the air right on the byline with a sensational acrobatic first touch that not only brings the ball down perfectly but beats the onrushing defender too. I can't find a video for it - does anyone know what I'm on about?

To be honest though, this thread could be littered with Iniesta moments. They're not always "important" as such, but very few players can extract a loud audible "oooooh" from the crowd (as what I just described did) when it's not a goal or something purposely fancy. That's got to be worth something. He's such a magical little player and I think very few in the history of football have managed to take the basics to the levels he has.

not a video, but im sure we'd all like to see this constantly

Ha! Murphy the Manc killer! I'd fucked up that day calendar wise and ended up committed to going on a day trip to France on the bloody ferry, back in the days when you didnt have internet on your mobile.... nervous as hell and unable to watch the game I got totalled on dozens of them little bottles of beers and forgot all about it resigned to not being able to find out.... when sobering up slowly on the way back (shortly after puking my ring over the side) I'd managed to regain enough composure and memory to ask some total stranger as we disembarked whether he knew what the result was, whoever he wasn't expecting me to pick him up in a celebratory bear hug!!

Agger did an interview yesterday where he revealed that he believes Iniesta is the most difficult opponent he has ever faced.

He added himself that he has been up against Messi too.

Gullit with a bullet header off a floated nod-back across goal. Friends and I were amazed by his ability to generate that sort of power on his header off a jogging start and with the ball dropping lazily.

Similar to Ryan's initial offering, just watch the first goal again... As Bales bursts into our penalty area and shapes to shoot / cross, Downing stops moving - He just fucking stops. If a 12 year old did that on a Sunday morning, you'd sub him off immediately. Pitiful.

Raul Meireless in the wall vs Man Utd.

He pushed the Man Utd. They push him back in retaliation and this creates the space for Gerrard to score the goal.

The two videos here don't show it clearly. There was one more video which showed it very clearly. However that has been taken down.

This is exactly the sort of presence of mind, cleverness we are missing in the penalty area for the last 2 to 3 years.

I can't understand what Reina was trying to do with that free kick (it isn't the first time this has happened - see Bolton when he conceded that controversial free kick for handling the ball outside the box). He's lined up the wall to cover his left, so he's got the right side of the wall to guard. He sees the ball floating in the wall's direction, so he shifts over to the left leaving his area where the ball was deflected into eventually. Did he not trust the wall he lined up? The way I see it - the wall actually did its job deflecting the ball from the area the keeper wasn't covering; it went into the area the keeper was supposed to cover.... but oops, he's not there.

Hi Whad, that vid's been removed but I get your point.
My issue with that goal though is Bale breaking free from both glenjo and Gerrard around the halfway line. The whole goal stems from that.

Fair enough, but at least his pace and skill is what made him the winner in those tete-a-tetes. Glen and Stevie tried to stop him, but they couldn't.
Downing just stopped. Had he kept running, we probably wouldn't have conceeded, regardless of Bale skinning the two lads 50 yards up the field.

I'd need to go back and look at it again, but was he maybe trying to hold the offside line?

He has no idea Lennon's behind him. You can tell from his reaction.
