Is Platini getting what he wanted ? He's wanted to dilute the hold the major clubs have had on the comp for a while now . He changed the playoff rules so league winners from so called weaker leagues would play each other and not the big 3rd or 4th place team from a major league . So i'd say he's happy enough with the way a fair few unexpected teams are in the knock out stage . Makes for a few uninspiring games i reckon, well unless you're a total football junkie.

Guess you can't look past Barca , Real and maybe Bayern to win it .

Hard to judge Bayern on last nights performance given they'd qualified. Prior to that they looked impeccable and I still think they're the team to beat.

Quick question but did anyone notice Valencia's approach in the first 25 minutes against Chelsea? They were defending in Chelsea's penalty area, harrassing them and hounding them relentlessly. It looked like Barca on steroids. I know they ended up with something like 70% of possession but couldn't help wondering if they'd tired themselves out by midway through the 2nd half. They really looked spent.

So does this improve Citeh's chances of winning the league? They probably won't concentrate so much on the Europa league and utd lost Vidic last night. The busy christmas period is fast approaching, can Citeh extend their gap?

They have a real chance of winning the Europa with whoever isn't currently in their league side anyway, so I don't think this will make much difference either way to their chances in the Prem.

I can't see City not going for the UEFA Cup. They've never been to a final of the European Cup or the UEFA Cup.

Whilst we've been busy celebrating the mancs dropping out of europe perhaps we've missed something.

Does this mean the Premiership will only get three places for the CL next season?

Well, at least, Kenny has a ready made excuse!

No, the top three countries get 4 teams, based on the coefficients. England is a good bit ahead of Spain and even further ahead of Germany. It would take a few years of poor performances to drop out of the top three.

Interesting that we're questioning the strength of the EPL when it was the top ranked league for this season.

That said the calcs are bollocks. How do Leeds get 3 first places and we got 2? How many times have they won Big Ears? Enough said.

I'm all for a ranking system but it clearly doesn't give enough bonus points for winning the cup.
