Michael Owen, once of this parish, is done for this season due to the injury he picked up on Sunday.

No World Cup for him.

Shame.

Shouldn't have gone even if he's fit

That would've made me happier
Months of working hard and scoring goals, looking like a certainty for south Africa.

Then bobby zamora going
*bliss*

He was never going to go anyway, once Ginsoak decided he would only be a bit part player for Salford.

My heart pumps purple piss for him.

....... purple piss?

That's the point - it's pretty unlikely, as is any possibility of my sympathising with the little shitehawk.

This thread needs some moralizing about how we should remember what he did for us etc etc.

It is a pity he won't be going to the world cup, from an Irish perspective naturally.

If there's any justice, United's no.7 kicked any such moralising into touch with the things he said after joining them.

His career really has bled out pretty quickly.

Time to write a new PR packet, I can't wait to read it.

It's a myth that Owen is frequently injured! Look at his goal scoring record, over the course of his career it's almost 1 in 2!

Great news. Now we can all look forward to his sparkling insight and personality lighting up the studios of the BBC's/ITV's coverage of the World Cup. He makes Lineker look interesting.

What is the injury he suffered? Groin, cruciate?

Forehead.

No surprise there then.

Hull next season for Owen.

At 29 you'd think he's be getting ready for a WC in his prime.

A career that promised alot more than it delievered.

Hull eh?

Bet you a fucking fortune he's still at Utd next year.

I'm probably in a minority of 1, but I still like Owen.

It's not costing Ferguson much to keep Owen there so I think he may give him another year.
For all his faults, I'd say he is a top professional and is good for the younger players at the club.
If anything else him and ginsoak are probably good mates now, what with the horses and all.

He's a professional footballer that made the right choice for himself last summer. Too many fans live in some idealistic utopia. 99% of footballers don't have anywhere near the allegiance to clubs that supporters have.

Think it was rather the way he went about it, Ryan.

He clearly made the right decision to go there, professionally.

What way did he go about Avy? His options were Hull, Stoke or Newcastle. I'd say he did a fucking handstand when he got the call from Untied.

What way Avvy?

Avvy is probably referring to some of the comments he made, which showed very little consideration to Liverpool fans.

You could argue that Liverpool fans have shown him very little consideration in recent years, but the point still stands.

Yes, but didn't those comments about the Real Madrid fans and Everton come after he was signed by United? Unless there are some other quotes I'm forgetting.

Yeah, that was mainly it.

He'd obviously choose United over Hull and Stoke; but bearing in mind the sensitivities involved, a little tact would have been nice.

There were all kinds of comments from him about how it was ' a dream come true' to play for them, and when he was asked about the effect this would have on his past with Liverpool he just said that thinsg were different and that he didnt really have many friends left at Liverpool and it wasnt an issue.

It was.

Anyway, I have no sympathy for him now, even if I dont blame him for going there.
