From the Daily Post:

Father and son admit fighting at funeral in Everton

Apr 30 2009 by Chloe Griffiths, Liverpool Daily Post

A FATHER and son have admitted sparking a brawl at their mother’s funeral.

Violence broke out when two prisoner brothers were given permission to attend the service of their 55-year-old mother.

Alan and Jason Daniels were escorted to St George’s CE Church, in Everton, by five prison officers.

But Liverpool Crown Court heard a melee broke out when family members tried to speak to the brothers, despite being warned by guards to stay away.

The men’s father, Derek Daniels, accepted being one of the “main instigators of troubleâ€.

As angry scenes broke out, Alan Daniels, who has had one leg amputated, threw himself out of his wheelchair, injuring a prison guard.

The court heard, as the brothers were hastily escorted from the church, a mob of family and friends hurled abuse and punches were thrown.

Daniels, 60, of Clyde Street, Blackpool, also accepted approaching one of the guards.

His son Alan, 35, of St Hillier’s Road South Shore, Blackpool, admitted throwing himself out of his wheelchair.. Jason Daniels was not charged.

Both men pleaded guilty to affray on January 19, 2007. They had been due to stand trial yesterday, but changed their plea.

A sentencing date is still to be fixed.
