The referee

I've noticed today that just about every media outlet has criticized his performance.

Is it just me that thinks he did very well?

It would be nice to see other referee's stand back from an incident and just think and assess what just happened rather than jumping in head first brandishing cards left, right & centre.

The carra challenge wasn't a red and the raphael challenge was just as likely a red, he handled both well and let the game flow were possible.

Nice to have a fair referee for a Utd match.

Well played, Phil Dowd.

For me Carra and Raphael were straight reds offences both went over the ball ,studs up and out of control. 9/10 refs would've sent both off and could've had no complaints. Apart from that the ref done well but it'l the last time he refs a Liverpool/United game when Ferguson gets his way.

I thought the ref done well despite constantly being surrounded by Scum players.

We gave as good as we got. No quarter asked or given.

People can say what they want about what could have been but all I'm interested in is what was.

3-1 and we deserved it. We were the better team and got the result that mattered.

carra and raphael were straight red but at least dowd was consistent. liked how he stepped back and allowed the players to go at each other then stepped back in when it had calmed down to dish out the cards.
100% guaranteed dowd wont ref any of united's games against the top 5 for the rest of this season.

I thought Carra, Rafael AND Nani (for pushing the ref) all should have gone, and I'm afraid I don't think the ref should just stand back when things kick off. However hard it may be, he should be in there sorting it and TBH I'm amazed he's actually been praised for keeping out of the way.

All that said, it did make a nice change not to see the ref giving ManUre everything for fear of the consequences if he didn't. David Gill's rant at Mike Riley in our directors' box was probably along the lines of: "Is this what we pay you for?"

Disagree entirely JJ.

These are millionaire pussies not sunday afternoon builders. There was absolutely no danger of skrtel doing any harm to Rafael or visa versa.

Until some sort of video technology is introduced to cover this part of the game, I'd much prefer the referee kept a cool head, took a few steps back and made a decision.

We seem to be making a habit of this at the moment. 😉

Let's agree to differ again. For me it matters not one bit who the players are - the top and bottom of it is that rules are being violently broken and the ref should be getting a grip, not standing aloof from it. If the rules are bad ones, change them, but no way should the very man whose job it is to enforce them just stand aside.

In the past 6 months ref's and their decision making abilities have taken the headlines to the extent of resignations and death threats.

Most recently in the past week we've had several contentious decisions. So i think you'll have to forgive dowd, for adopting a think first, act second approach to one of the biggest matches in the UK football calender off the back of the last 7 days.

It's not as if if he shirked duties either. He just watched. Then he stepped in and in my opinion took the right course of action. If you noticed the lino's got involved whilst he was 15 ft away watching on, so it was hardly as if they were left to their own devices anyway.

I usually agree with everything you say in this forum JJ, so yeah.. It is a shock that you've been wrong twice in as many days! 😉

Carra was very much in control.

On closer inspection...i'm chatting shit.

I did hear it on TV like. It may have been home games. But still yirs well in.

I thought he did quite well but apart from that 3 minute spell of madness, I thought it was an easy game to referee.

We havent lost the last 13 games he's been in charge. I like Dowd, even more after yesterday.

Dowd is a very good ref, fair and gets most decisions right. A few wrong yesterday, but I'm not complaining.
