The new number 9…

With the caveat that, of course given FSGs history, we’re in no way guaranteed to sign a new 9 in January - who would you want if Slot gets the green light to sign the striker he wants for his system?

A Firmino type? (Cunho perhaps, linked with Arsenal yesterday)

An out and out goal scorer? (Gyokeres, albeit much to prove outside of the Portuguese league..Isak when on form?)

Genuine aerial ability? (Sesko?)

A pace merchant? (Openda)

A gamble? (Osimhen on the cheap?)

Some hot poo young starlet?…

What says 6CM?

I like the look of Joao Pedro or Sesko. Both with great quality, goalscoring records and young (23 and 21).

Both would be a fantastic addition to our side going forward.

I forgot to mention Joao Pedro. He looks like he’s really kicked on and ready for the step up.

Likely fee? 60-70m?

Kinda depends on Mo. If we keep Mo - someone who is somewhat of a scorer and somewhat provider can work (e.g. a Cunha). If we lose Mo then we also need a wide forward as well as a number 9.

I want someone who is already in the PL to join the forward line, and I think our system could work really well for any one of Joao Pedro, Cunha, Mbuemo.

There are other high potential players like Duran, Delap I think would be interesting.

Who knows what we are looking for though.

Is this who you want or the club are likely to go for? It would be good to define boundaries.
For me we have 6 forwards, now many here would rather sell Jota and Nunez, but lets see if that is what Slot does. I think Weds game showed we really missed Konate, and had he been in the squad we would have won the game. Quansah does worry me, he made the wrong decision quite often and that could be to do with match time.
The names that have been floating around do make sense for me
CB - Loic Bade (25m)
LB - Kerkez (40m)
CM - Zubimendi (50m)
AM - Cherki (20m)
CF - Marmoush (50m)

Outgoing Jota (£40m), Diaz (£50m) or Nunez and Robbo (£10m), Kevin (£40m), Gomez (£40m)
Before anyone starts, I don't think any of the sorts will happen.

I’d forgotten about Marmoush given it’s gone a bit quiet on him after non stop mentions a few weeks back.

Can he play the 9?

He is what everyone hoped Nunez would be.
The other thing we must ensure is availability, Isak is briliant but he keeps getting knocks and I think misses many games for them. Someone should check that. People should not forget that one of the reasons why both Salah and VVD have been great players for us is not just what they do on the pitch but also because they are always on it !!!!

Will try for one of those young guys like Morgan Rogers or Evan Ferguson. Solid, strong, full of running and non-donkey. No more south american please.

Would Kudus fit the bill? How’s he performing?

Ferguson would be hit or miss.

Joao Pedro is going places.

Joao Pedro is 23 and has really kicked on. 24 goals in 47 games for Brighton and can play in different positions.
I'd agree that he probably is the right fit compared to Sesko (who is also brilliant btw). He has that Firmino vibe but also the ability to be clinical.

70-80 mill £ I reckon given its Brighton and Barber.

Honestly, that would not be a bad price given his ceiling

There isn’t a striker on the market right now who truly excites me, though I agree it’s an area we need to strengthen.

Gyökeres is a clinical finisher, but I expect Manchester United will target him in the summer. At 27, he’s also older than the type of player we typically go for, so I don’t see us making a move for him. The same applies to Marcus Thuram at Inter. He's just peaked a bit late.

Ferguson is an exceptional talent—one of the most complete strikers I’ve seen at just 20 years old. He has massive potential, but with a six-year contract and his recent injury issues, now doesn’t feel like the right time.

Sesko has clear strengths: he’s a fantastic finisher and strikes the ball cleanly. However, whenever I’ve watched him, he’s seemed a bit lacking in pace and creativity. I’m not convinced he’s the ideal fit for this squad.

It's natural to be linked to Giminez at Feyenoord but he looks pretty bang average against even worse defenses. I can't see Slot thinking he's ready for Liverpool.

For me, João Pedro would be the best choice. While some of his stats are padded by penalties, he’s the most suited to this group of players. He can create, score, link up play, drop deep, and has the pace to get on the end of attacking moves. There’s room for improvement but that’s true for all of the options. In terms of profile, he’s the best starting point for Slot to work with.

Pedro seems to be the best bet, I know he's a bit flavour of the month but has looked very good whenever I've seen him play. I actually like Isak more but Newcastle surely won't sell. Cunha isn't a real striker and not that good either

Not particularly impressed by Sesko, seems a bit static. I only watched him playing for the national team where he gets zero service though

I think Osimhen is great at football but his manager/agent makes that fat cunt who used to represent Raheem and Sterling look like Mother Theresa. So a bit no to that one

Honestly there's not too many proper good strikers about. Ignoring the currently malfunctioning robot, the best in the league at the moment seem to be Jackson and Watkins, both very underwhelming. After that we're in the Chris Wood territory.

I wish we could keep Jota fit but I'm afraid he's going full Sturridge

the only thing about Jota is that this time it was a freak injury. someone falling on him. Less of a muscle strain through overplaying,

It’s getting trickier by the minute…

Arsenal and Chelsea are both targeting a striker and the two London clubs have a similar list of targets, which includes Newcastle United'sSweden forward Alexander Isak, 25. (Caught Offside), external

Manchester United have also made signing a striker the club's top priority in the January transfer window. (Mirror)

Slot described it as a “bruise” and that was 6 weeks ago. It just takes him ridiculously long to get fit every time.

You’ve convinced me - I’m on the Pedro chain - agreed, looks like he’s a better fit for a Slot team, can link play, finish and has a high ceiling.

We have a good relationship with Brighton and they owe us one for helping them rip a few extra million off Chelsea for Caciedo.

£80m is a lot - but that’s were the market is and if our boffins align - then it’s not really that much more than Donkey cost.

We definitely can’t carry both Donkey & Jota - one probably has to go - that should fund a fair chunk of the transfer.

Slot described it as a “bruise” and that was 6 weeks ago. It just takes him ridiculously long to get fit every time.

If its a bruised rib or cracked rib its 6-8 weeks though. Has to be that kind of injury.

The thing with Jota is it always happens to him. Most of the time it’s not his fault but it happens over and over again.

I like Pedro, but I would prefer someone who is a better finisher and can strike a ball. So I am in the šesko camp for now.
We need someone to be on the end of moves, so creativity isn’t a must for me.

Sesko has been utter shit every time I've seen him. Darwin is better than him. Openda is the more impressive of the Leipzig forwards.

I actually think Marmoush looks very good, though he seems to be a late bloomer. It'd be either him or Joao Pedro. The #9 market has been pretty bad for a while.

He is what everyone hoped Nunez would be.
edit contract still has three and a half years to run but he is on low wages and is stalling on signing a new deal
Stalling on signing a new deal when the old one has 3.5 years to run?!
