The Lions squad

I think and Hogg and sexton have left themselves a lot to do after their awful performances. Jetlag or not

They do - i think getting the nod in the first game of the tour is a bit of a poisoned chalice.

I think Hogg will still make the squad for the tests - it'll be a toss up between him and Halfpenny for 15.
Sexton has more competition for 10 though and we can beat the All Blacks with Biggar or Farrell at 10 in any event.

Team for tomorrow:
British & Irish Lions: L Halfpenny; J Nowell, J Payne, R Henshaw, E Daly; D Biggar, R Webb; J McGrath, K Owens (capt), D Cole, C Lawes, M Itoje, J Haskell, J Tipuric, C J Stander. Replacements: R Best, J Marler, K Sinckler, Henderson, O’Mahony, Laidlaw, J Sexton, L Williams.

This team has some more familiarity in certain quarters and that should see a better performance. The Welsh 9&10, the Irish centres, the English second row.
I like the balance of the back row as well.

Only caught the second half but that was less than impressive.

A lot of mistakes were made and that lineout at the end is indicative of a side that isn't well drilled yet.

Thats the game winner - blistering pace and a great angle taken by the sub outhalf.

Itoje makes the first mistake in opening a gap for Sonny Bill, and then Sexton gets burned badly.

Lots of poor errors by the Lions - particularly defensively. Towards the end the penalty Marler gave away in possession deep in the 22 was a killer, as was the lineout fuckup shortly after that.

In advance of the expected comments about a Best overthrow which is the easy explanation. Have a look at the height of the throw, it was perfect as was the trajectory. There's clearly a timing problem - but Itoje's reaction says to me he expected Marler in with the lift earlier.

Team for Saturday:
Lions: Stuart Hogg; George North, Jonathan Davies, Ben Te’o, Liam Williams; Owen Farrell, Conor Murray; Mako Vunipola, Jamie George, Tadhg Furlong; Alun Wyn Jones (C), George Kruis; Peter O’Mahony, Sean O’Brien, Taulupe Faletau.

People seem to think the Lions could get a shoeing today. Lets hope we can step up.

Well, the Crusaders are the form provincial team out there, but that's a strong Lions team so I don't see a walkover for either side.

The game's just started actually and the Lions are looking well up for it.

Some great play there should have lead to a try buy Teo butchered the pass after making a nice cut

I slept through the first half hour but it seems a more fluent performance.

Goodhue with a great break stepping inside Farrell. Those that watch a lot more than i do think Goodhue is going to superb, it does look that way

Watson is electric.

Lovely fluid running style and effortlessly gets to top speed.

One of the fatties knocked on after he put it on a plate

I think O'Brien ends up on the bench because of his versatility. But i'd have him in every day of the week.

O'Mahoney has had a great game too for me.
Its the strength in the back row that makes Warburton's captaincy a problem.

Depending on form and tactics any back row combo involving O'Mahony, O'Brien, Tipuric, Faletau, Warburton and Stander is more than good enough.

But having your captain in that group limits the options.

Much needed win.

The test team is taking shape.

I think we can write Murray in at scrum half now.

Add Falutua at eight as well.

Good win. Not pretty, Murray's selection seems to dictate the tactics with his box kicks.
Thats close to the All Blacks tight five and the back line were handy too.

Some injuries early on might have scuppered us, but we fought through and should have won by more.
