The League Table

We won't finish 4th and if we finish outside the Europa spots will see the end of the manager. Even making the Europa might not be enough to save him.

If we had won against Leicester I'd be inclined to say we were right back in it, but those 2 dropped points makes a massive difference in the belief we can achieve it.

We're dependant on a lot of teams above us losing as we try to close the gap. Soton look strong but will fade. Its between us, Arsenal, Utd and Spurs. Sadly think we'll finish 6th.

I reckon we have a very good chance of finishing 4th (even 3rd) if the following happens:

1. Sturridge remains fit for the rest of the season and discovers last season's form
2. We sign Shaqiri and he hits the ground running
3. We sign a keeper like Cech
4. Gerrard is used in midfield as sparingly as possible

The probability of all the above happening isn't very high though; so I suspect we'll finish about 6th.

I think you're giving all the credit to Rodgers for something FSG and the committee have been responsible for.

If you cannot praise him for doing things with an eye to the future, then you cannot criticize him for failing to sufficently replace Suarez with a bunch of young players as well...you cannot have it both ways.

Every defeat brings the "thickos" out of the woodwork in this forum and i'm tired of reading the collective meltdown the site goes in to every fortnight. Have some patience and composure for fucks sake.

But at every stage I've spoken up for and praised the focus on a long-term strategy. I just don't think it's got much to do with Rodgers.

Not so sure about your calculations Froggie. Unless the remainder of the league goes the same way result wise, and we take advantage I cant see it happen now. Southampton only need 30 points to reach 66 for example. I really had been hoping for a Southampton draw, Spurs defeat and a win for us yesterday.

It looks to me like our best CL option is through the Europa, Hope I'm wrong though.

Not mine mate. That was from some paper last week based on historical PL stats. Still think Saints will drop off - if they don't they'll get 4th ! If they do drop off then IMHO 62-65 will get it since none of the teams around them have any consistency, or are looking like they will have in the 2nd half of the season. Just got to hope Rodgers keeps to previous form.

Wonder if Vlad's Quiff has had his usual bet on them going down. At this rate he just might collect on it this season.

I think Martinez & Rodgers are very similar managers.

Both seem more than capable of getting teams playing cohesive passing football, but equally as incapable of organising & coaching a defence.

Martinez has the additional problem of a lot of older players throughout the spine of the team.

I don't think they'll go down, but they could seriously struggle if they continue to pick up injuries in the second half of the season.
