Faux pas: Neeskens didn't help his president when he needed it most

Former Barcelona president Jose Luis Nuñez sold midfielder Johan Neeskens because he refused to hand him toilet paper in a moment of need.

The claims, which have come from a new book titled Barca Inèdit, date back to 1978 when Neeskens was one of the team's best players.

Despite being a member of the Dutch dream team, Nuñez ditched Neeskens after the president found himself in a sticky situation at Alicante's Rico Perez stadium.

Then president of the club, Nuñez was reportedly fuming when one of Barca's top players refused to help him by passing him a toilet roll under the stall and vowed to sell him at the next available opportunity.

Neeskens was flogged to New York Cosmos in 1979, even with his side winning the Cup Winners' Cup that year and the stylish midfielder being a fan favourite.
