The Italian's role in the team

I'm looking forward to seeing Aquilani finally play for Liverpool. I've been watching clips of him playing in Italy and he looks impressive in and around the box picking out killer first time passes and also getting on the end of moves too.
I always wanted to see Alonso playing in the attacking midfield role where his passing range could actually create goal scoring chances instead of getting moves started however I believe Aquilani may be more suited to this role due to having more pace and height.
It seems our new player is a specialist in the position that Gerrard’s been playing in for the last year or two so how will Rafa set up his team once all options are available? We miss having a midfielder to collect the ball from the defence and turning with it however this should be less of a problem once Agger returns to the fold. I’d like to see something like this:

Reina

Johnson Skrtel Agger Aurelio

Mascherano

Gerrard Aquilani

Benayoun Riera

Torres

He and Stevie G will play alternate games and only during Carling Cup games when the magnificent Lucas gets rested will rafa play both Aquaman and Gerrard in the same team.

Wilko's line up looks about right.

rafa will play him left wing or something.

i agree with wilko's lineup, i'm sure i posted something similar earlier this week although i can't see kuyt being dropped at all

-------------------Reina
Johnson------Skrtel/Agger------Carrra-----Aurelio
----------- Mascherano
----------------------Aquilani
------Kuyt---------Gerrard -----------Riera/Benny
--------------------Torres

Fuck, I missed that.

Wilko's team except Benny on the other side and Kuyt instead of Riera.

Well, that's the injured Italian covered.

What about the fat one?

I hope we can recoup a transfer fee for him.
That's the absolute best we can hope for.

It appears that he's replaced the pizzeria with the chippy.

I'm hopeful we'll find a buyer for Dossena in January.

He'll be anxious to get back to Italy in a bid to make the World Cup squad.

Apparently all the Roma fans have been blaming their defeats on the loss of Aquilani. I really hope he makes a difference.

I think they're saying something similar about us in Madrid.

I'm not sure Rafa knows. He seemed to know very little about him when he was talking about him after he was signed.

Best solution is to go back to 4-4-2 and play Kuyt up with Torres, Gerrard and Babel on the wings and Mascherano and Aquilani in the centre of the midfield. Insua and Babel have a great understanding on the left. Gerrard could help Johnson defensively and would be freed of the role he's been playing and not performing in this season. Drop Lucas and Benayoun can start odd games for us.

I know Gerrard's best position is at CM but we are now at alarming stage where we need him to help us get crosses in from right wing. Gerrard can do that.

I disagree.

Kuyt has proven that he is more than capable of creating chances for other players when played on the right. When Aquilani is fit he should play with Masch in the center with Gerrard behind Torres, Benayoun on the left, and Kuyt on the right (or Riera on the left and Benayoun on the right).

I read today that Aquilani hasn't actually kicked a ball yet in training.

We could be waiting a few more weeks to see him in action.

I'm begining to think aqualini is an urban myth...

Bollocks.

i reckon it'll be xmas before this lad so much as starts 2 games in a row. he's just started running, what about kicking the ball, tackling, match fitness and so on? we're already in october.

just as big a question regarding this lad is not just when he'll be fit but whether he can stay fit. he was injury prone when we bought him, we only have to look at degen and aurelio to see how this trait is hard to shake off.

i really hope this works out but imo it is a massive gamble

No you don't, you fucking liar.
You hope he is a disaster so you can continue your fucking tirade against Rafa.

You cannot deny that he isn't a gamble, though.

A move for Barry was the safest bet.

i support the team not rafa. of course i want it to work out. at the very least it'll mean lucas doesn't play.

as for referring to me as a 'fucking liar' it's a good job i'm an amicable easy going bloke.

Which just shows how hopelessly dimwitted rage is to think he's saying something we don't already know. Honestly, the inanities that glug out of that knob! (That's just for you, rage. As your teacher used to say.)

Yes, that's why you go 'ha ha' when the team goes a goal down.

once again out of context u stupid tit. and you'll find that's not what i exactly said. you can play the superfan all you want.

i'm looking forward to seeing aquaman play. but unlike some on here my expectations are not sky high. he is italian, he is used to playing in a slower league, he will need time to settle and i think its hard for any player to come upto speed by joining in 1/3 of the way through the season.

Neither has Babel. Hasn't done him any harm, has it?
