Off the top of my head one of the greatest matches I saw live was Russia vs. Czech Republic at Anfield in Euro 1996.

F.A.Cup game against Stoke the weekend after Cally got his MBE. More for the occasion (and for the experience of standing in the old Kop) than for the game itself really, though there was one great headed goal from Keegan.

God damn that was a great day. I was watching the scoreline updates on uefa.com's live match thingy while taking a molecular biology lab back in undergrad in full lab garb (goggles, nitrile gloves, lab coat), and having heart attacks every two seconds during the penos. As soon as it was over, I was jumping up and down, flailing my tiny 90 lb female lab partner up and down, and doing cartwheels through the aisles.

I think I got a B+ in that class.

Haha. Great story.

I've been thinking back to the first tie against the Chavs this season as I've watched Robert Huth get a taste for scoring goals. Things were different then. 😉

I never did ask you, why'd you change your username DW?

It didn't like it anymore. And 'Holle' is my nickname in real life too.

Republic of Ireland v USSR. Dalymount Park, Dublin 30th October 1974.

My first International. Paid at the gate. Ground filled to over capacity. Liam Brady's international debut. Johnny Giles player manager. Don Givens hattrick. Result 3 - 0.

Definitely a game I will never forget

Didn't know you we're that old Jack. To be honest I didn't have a clue what age you were but pictured you in your 20's or 30's.

I wish ILD.

Im of the Judge Jules vintage.

The match last saturday? I've not been to a massive amount of great games, so i think that one has to stand out.

Either of the 4-3's v Newcastle
The Olypmiakos game
Istanbul

Each of them have their merits. If I had to choose, it would be Istanbul.

Did you catch all of the above live Jon?

Jealous.

I'v not been to loads of games

Though I have seen us whoop Bham 7-0
I also saw Fowlers goal upon his return in that thumping of Fulham.

International, I watched (and cried don't ask why) England V Portugal in Portugal when Beckham hit the International space station from the penalty spot, after Owen gave England the lead.

I think I went to both the newcastle games.... But my memory is hazy at the best of times, let alone when I was a nipper

Yep. I've been lucky! But I missed the semi v Chelsea in 05 to my eternal regret. Was at the 07 semi but it can't have been the same although the atmos was fantastic.

I've seen so many fantastic games over so many years. In fact, there's a couple of glaring ommissions!

Liverpool v Forest 5-0 and v QPR 4-0 in the 87/88 season. The QPR one was when Digger announced himself at Anfield. He was untouchable that day and the Forest game is probably THE most complete performance I've ever seen live. So actually it beats Istanbul.

I've also been lucky enough to see us win in the Nou Camp and the Bernabeu. Dull games but memories I will hold forever.

For me the ones that stood out the most Auxerre 3 nil, unbelievable atmosphere.... the 3-3 draw with the mancs was pretty sweet too...

And the first newcastle 4-3.

Auxerre was a great one; I was probably about 12 or 13 and I didnt believe we'd recover from 2-0 down in the first leg.

Istanbul - Just the emotion , it was so draining , our bus back to the city was actually pretty quiet , everyone seemed in semi shock just sitting there smiling. Such a feeling.

2-1 v Blackburn in '95 when they won the league . Them were the days when we weren't used to Utd winning it and were sure we'd win it soon enough again so were happy for Kenny and Blackburn to win it at Utd's expense . With no mobiles back then you were relying on the few lads with radios and where we were the people in the boxes, to pass the score on . When Redknapp smashed that free-kick in the place went mental then there was confusion , then mental again ...for just a moment it felt like our success .

0-1 v Norwich ....last day of the Kop and my first game , so glad i got to see it at least the once in all it's glory . Ian Rush promised us a goal but it wasn't to be although Jeremy Goss's cracking goal was pretty fitting last goal . Feck as I was typing I just looked it up on youtube ..Goss's goal was even better than i remember !.

Non Liverpool games - I really enjoyed Sweden 5-0 Bulgaria in Euro 2004 , mainly for Larsson's diving header . Then the "Battle of Nurnberg" Portugal 1-0 Holland WC 2006 was good , mainly for all the bookings and sendings off ...it was dirty but it got the crowd going nuts.

Th connaught cup final in which my school came from 4-0 down to win 5-4.

Truly great day.

Liverpool would probably be the 3-3 at Anfield many years ago.
