The front three

Mane has been really good this season and for me, he's the pick of the front three. Salah has still given a great return, but he's also been frustratingly wasteful and greedy in equal measure, despite his goal return I don't think he's looked quite the player he was last season, while question marks have always lingered about Firmino's consistency and goal threat (despite today).

So going into next season, would anyone be happy with the same front three starting, or do they need competition? Does Bobby need some pressure on his place in the team? I don't want this to turn into a trigger happy free for all about the merits of the three players who were so brilliant last season, but we've also seen previously that prolific seasons are rarely repeated and you have to strive to progress, rather than looking back.

Someone said we have a great spine - we do. I think Allison-VVD-Fabinho is an excellent start and probably the most formidable GK-CB-DM option in the league, but I don't feel that all is well at the top end of the pitch.

*I do love Firmino and his intricacy and attitude, I just don't feel he's completely reliable.

I think we need an addition to press them. We can't allow complacency to set into the side or we will decline.

Yup. Pretty much. Though I guess my real question was whether we need to improve that area of the squad, or whether we need to buy someone that will displace one of them?

Definitely need some fresh blood in there and more competition for places.

Problem we have is when one/two of them are off form, we have no one else to rely on to bring in, other than Studge and Origi.

I'd like us to sign a proper CF to replace Sturridge. One who could play as the 9 ahead of the current from 3, in a 4-2-3-1. Also a player who can play wide in that formation and the 4-3-3.

Ideal player would be Mbappe.

More realistic one would be Timo Werner.

Bobby is the first name on the teamsheet for me.
He does so much dog work, hes literally the cog that all other cogs in the team work from.
When Bobby plays well the whole attack plays well.
Not so much when he is having an off day.

I'm hopeful Brewster can fully recover and provide competition for all three spots at the front. We really could do with one more player at least though that can come in when any one of them are injured or playing shit.

An attacking midfielder that can provide the final ball and shoot from outside the box (we actually have ZERO in our team that can do it) is more of a priority for me though.

Of course we need another striker and reliable goalscorer.

Who would disagree? Firmino was very good today and scored twice, but he hasn't been good enough or scored enough all season. And we have nothing in reserve.

We've needed a quality new striking option for years

  • Roberto Firmino has now scored 10+ goals in all four of his Premier League seasons with Liverpool, the best 100 per cent record of reaching double figures of any player for the club in the competition.
  • Roberto Firmino has been directly involved in 100 goals in 175 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp (63 goals, 37 assists), more than any other player in that time.

And thats why.

The first-choice striker for a Top 4 team has managed to score '10 +' league goals in every season?

Oh my fucking God! That's INCREDIBLE!1111!!!!

Hahahahahahahaha

Its not even True.
Fowler did it.

Id be surprised if Owen and Torres didnt too.

He was prolific last season, if he hits 15+ this season it's a good return again. My point was more that Salah and Firmino haven't been that consistent in terms of actual performance this season, no one would really say any of them should lose their place, but can we improve?

Im just referencing that 10+ goals stat pal.
I have no issue with Bobby, he brings Plenty to the team. Doesnt mean we dont need a goalscorer.

We need more competition at the front (and for the FBs). We have 4/5 for 2 CB slots. We have 6/7 midfielders for 3 slots. We ideally need at least 5/6 truly competing for 3 at the front. Brewster will be one of them next season and I expect Studge & Origi to have moved on. So a true CF and a player who can play wide left as well as right.

Should be someone who is seen as a legitimate option for a starting spot, not just someone who is a reasonable option for rotation or off the bench.

It will be tough to find out and out upgrades - but I want a competitor to Bobby, not a replacement for Sturridge and Origi.

What does that mean?

It means of the players who have scored 10+ goals in every season they've played for Liverpool, he's played the most seasons.

So effectively, that means Torres, Owen and Fowler all had seasons where they scored less than 10 goals. Seems somewhat of a nothing stat except it does speak to his durability and his respectable floor performance level.

Absolutely need to add to the front three.

By losing Sturridge, Lovren etc we must have enough room in terms of wages to bring in a top class player.

Just had a quick look at Owen. He had 7 seasons with double digits but his stats is then ruined by him making the debut and scoring one goal towards the end of the season before.

Sturridge needs to be shipped out with another attacker signed. Preferably someone left footed, quick and capable of playing as 9 also. Origi is worth hanging onto for another year, IMO.

We need a fourth at their level so that we can keep the front three fresh, and so we can keep them honest. I'd say someone who can take Firminos position and also play out wide would be the ide candidate.

We definitely top class alternatives. We can’t continue relying on backups like Origi and Sturridge.

It’s not going to be easy finding the right player(s) but we can’t skimp again. The defence and midfield got all the cash last summer, it’s the attack’s turn now.
