Sorry, random England thread, but something I've been thinking about

Sterling
Sturridge
Barkley
Henderson
Shaw
Chambers
Oxlade-Chamberlain
Ibe
Stones
Lallana
Roberts
Walcott

Just some of the players who'll be in contention for the 2016 Euros and 2018 world cup. England would be aspiring to win one of them if they had any guts.

Barkley is going to be one hell of a player, likewise sterling, just need a few others to step up. It's certainly more exciting on paper than the Past decade of players.

Need to bin off hodge first though!

Different manager and attacking approach then maybe. The talent is there but the defence is still shite.

If they had the right manager, England could do what Germany did.

Sadly they are stuck with woy, who is an expect in lowering expectations......

Over the years we've had some great tallent who have been breath taking for club but it just doesn't happen at international level maybe we need a worldy world class manager but without one I can't see that lot above been any different to others in the past.

Patrick Roberts, Fulham player, 17 years old. World class potential, brilliantly skillful attacker.

Guaranteed to make it to the national team IMO.
One of the NI papers, the Sunday Life, said United were contemplating a 15million bid for him

That's something close to what the starting team should have been in Brazil.

I could have bought into a manager who sold me a vision of building a team ready to win a tournament in four or six years time, because there was zero chance of this year. Roy isn't the man to carry that out though. We'll carry out having a short-term vision, picking players on form 2 months before the tournament, throw them all together and be surprised when we achieve fuck all. That's why there's so little optimism or feeling for England, and I can't see that changing any time soon.

Roy Hodgson being in charge of the England team is fucking criminal, it's still astounding how he got let off the hook by the media for that embarrassment just gone, after going out he had a week of mainly support with many excuses made for him then the came the media blackout, unbelievable when you consider how previous England managers have been treated and the fact England were out of the World Cup at the earliest possible opportunity.

Those players have no chance of doing anything remotely successful under him although saying that qualifying for tournaments seems to have been spun into a success nowadays, pitiful stuff for a football nation of Englands size, the whole thing stinks and has done for quite sometime, it reminds me of the cricket with the jobs for the boys culture and money being the number 1 priority, the old cunts in charge of it all don't really give a fuck, Hodgson wouldn't be in charge if they did, they are riding that gravy train and filling their pockets while they can.

Wilshere should be on that list, he gets a fair bit of grief but he's still a highly talented and classy player and still young, he really needs an injury free season or 2 to get back on track, and to man up a bit and quit the bullshit.

He's fucking shite. He's a midfielder, but he just runs forward, falls over, and sits on his arse for two minutes sulking about it. He's either got to learn some tactical discipline and work ethic, or improve the attacking side of his game and become an attacking midfielder.

He certainly ain't fucking shite but i do agree with most of that, he needs to man up and sort his shit out, his talent is undeniable but injuries have been cruel to him, he needs a clear run and possibly a fresh start away from Arsenal.

He's certainly got talent, but until he takes responsibility for his position he's a liability to his team, hence fucking shite. There's a reason Arsenal always get overrun in midfield. Arteta doesn't have the legs, and Wilshere is always absent.

It's nice to have all these players coming through at the same time (nice for English football) but we're still largely stuck within the confines of a system which doesn't actually value intelligence and tactical acumen. You look at all the managers of the premier league or championship teams - the percentage of them getting their teams to play possession-based football with emphasis on technical ability is ridiculously low. The general football conversation in this country doesn't value it, which is why the poster boys for the England team tend to be players like Beckham, Rooney, Gerrard and now Wilshire. Players with undoubted ability but whose most valued talent is 'passion'.

There's no sense within the FA of building an identity, cementing a playing style; look at the order in which we do things - pick a captain, pick a formation, pick a squad. There's no actual sense of developing a team that can peak at a tournament - when was the last time England knew their first choice side before a tournament kicks off? We fanny about with friendlies, lurch from one formation to the next because we're trying to be in vogue without actually understanding the pros and cons of each setup and how this will affect the players.

And then when we come to pick a squad it's just a case of picking the best/in form 23 players. There's no sense of what positions/roles do we need to fill. Gerrard plays defensive midfield for Liverpool, so let's play him defensive midfield for England - this despite the fact for Liverpool he's supposed to be a deep lying playmaker and for England a destroyer. We can't work it either way - if we pick a squad then a setup, the setup should reflect the quality of the squad (ie if your defenders are all slow as fuck, don't play a high line); if we pick a setup then a squad the squad should reflect the setup.

But we're plagued with backward thinking, partly fuelled by the media and former players. There's very little intelligent thinking on or off the pitch. Until that happens it isn't going to make that much difference who the players are because we're generally fucked.

Two words why England will achieve nothing-- Roy Hodgson.

England haven't achieved much in a long time before he was in charge, it can't always be the managers fault, there's something more than that.

Although Hodgson obviously isn't anywhere near good enough, I don't think anyone given the set up, would actually do an awful lot better.

It's definitely the managers Gerry; look at some of the numptys England have had in recent times...McLaren, Taylor, Keegan, Hodgson etc. The only 2 good ones were Hoddle and Venable who both made England look very good but left for non-footballing reasons.

England have ALWAYS had enough talent to challenge for EVERY major trophy but rarely had the right manager. With this current crop England should be a major threat for Euro '16 but won't be with Hodsgon in charge. Hopefully for England's sake they'll get it right next time and challenge for the next world cup.
