I'd like to see this happen, if for no other reason than to see how it shook things up.

I'll await the resident SCM economists to provide analysis of the probable consequences if it happens. Or some Google then copy and paste lackey is equally welcome.

Them fifpro fuckers are full of shit, they're another crew wanting a cut of all of the money that's in the game. They probably want the transfer money to go to the players instead of the clubs, like the players aren't rich enough.

Yes, correct, they want what would have been transfer money now used as the primary means to attract players to clubs in the form of even bigger wages. They couldn't justify their existence without having a policy to increase the pay of their members at the same time as line their own pockets. Unions, hey!

Yeah it's not surprising.

The interesting thing is, in the Bosman judgement the Court raised very specific issues they had with the transfer system and it's arbitrary nature. Fifpro say that's where they'll take the case and that makes plenty of sense.

I would prefer to see the end of transfer fees. I like the idea of trades happening between clubs.

How is that going to be a practical solution though?

As things stand, a smaller club might rely on player sales to sustain itself.

Only being able to get a player when you've got players to trade in return seems like an incredibly limiting solution.

I presume there would be more focus on home grown players and academies

In MLB a franchise can partially pay a players salary when a player is traded. Suppose Dortmund trade a say 80k/wk player like Gundogan for a 250k/wk Ibrahimovic from PSG. PSG can also agree to pay 150k/wk of the Ibra contract for however long, or say they'll cover 150k/wk the first year, 100k/ the next, whatever. You can allocate it however you want, numbers are arbitrary.

The catch here is that if you're trading a player on high wages and refuse to cover wages, odds are you won't get much in return. If you want to cover a large portion of the wages, a club will be more likely to send more enticing prospects. You can also directly trade cash considerations for players, though these deals rarely involve anybody of real worth.

The affiliate/draft/IFA system would be impossible to implement though, as so much is based on identity/relegation. Ideally, FIFA and all the federations set an Agents fee percentage, and this comes out of player wages, not from a transfer fee. The number for NBA is 4%, NFL is 3%.

Bring back the maximum wage.

Hate Jimmy Hill

Don;t forget mr pointy chin led the PFA out of the TUC, and that started the separation of football from its working class roots.

Does he still exist BTW?

Sounds like it would make football shit.

ha maybe.

I like the idea of clubs who develop players getting to keep them for as long as possible and deriving the benefit from being better. If top teams weren't simply able to buy up everyone available it would be a bit more interesting for me.

Wouldn't it end up like baseball etc then though where the players will get 200mill 7yr contract? We need the wankers to get less money, and more money to go into development.
