The Donkey

Oh….. I’ll bite.

I presume we’re limiting it to league games, because you know… not everyone gets to play Norwich.

Also - are we going with per minutes played… happy with a floor they have to be above, line x amount of games or minutes?

Or do you just want to lob raw numbers in there?

I ask because… unless you find the right way to stack the stats in Nunez favour… you’re going to be upset.
I dont suspect there is a lot in his favour but when he is in the game and he was for large parts of this season he was excellent. Just his presence alone ensures opposition teams are unable to play that high line. He has all the attributes we can all see that I just dont think Klopp is using him right. He needs one of those Gakpo moments in that team. Lets not all turn into Chelsea where world class forward potential turn into shit.

Also I dont think we should look too much into his performances of last season, the whole team were shit in providing chances for our forwards. I think we would regret letting him go.

Don't want to be a spoiler or anything, but be warned that Stevie's example will be a certain bitey Uruguayan, who will crap all over Darwin's stats no matter how you look at it. There is no path to winning this argument now that step has been taken

I don’t even have to.

Fucking Richarlison has better GA per minute in the Premier League than Darwin this season - and as a pure number it’s only assists that Darwin is ahead on.

There’s at least 4-5 South Americans with better GA then Darwin across top leagues - and that also takes into account… I’m not sure there are any S American forwards of note in the Bundesliga.

So despite Moron’s best efforts to narrow the field - or maybe in spite of… he’s done a Dreamie and is talking balls.

Just so we’re clear - we’ve gone from “can you name any other S American strikers who’s stats are as good as Darwin’s” to what is in effect “look at the magical things that his mere presence on the pitch” cause to happen?

Which is followed up by - we shouldn’t really look at his performances.

So what is it… is he some sort of fucking overgrown mascot with a penchant for sorcery?

I dont know how old you are but you just have not seem enough strikers in your time to appreciate what we.have and have not been using it correctly.

I’d imagine I’m a bit older than you - I’ve seen plenty of strikers in my time and Nunez is another in a long line of decent strikers that just aren’t quite good enough.

He’s a less productive Paul Walsh, is what he is.

You don’t win lots of titles with cult heroes.

You Know Yes GIF by Liverpool FC

So we're supposed to change the way we play, a structure set from the u15s all the way up to the seniors, for one player? A player who in his first season was shown up by Gakpo who joined mid season and also played in the world cup?
A player that was shown up by Jota who's injured all the time?

The excuses are reaching hall of fame level now. We're talking Stuart Downing levels.
Downing was another mis-used player by a former manager

That is the Origi. Not a cult hero.
And he was normally not a starter for us even in his prime. The idea of Nunez as “expensive Origi” is belied by the fact that Divock was kissed by the gods of football luck and fortune and Darvin was cursed by them.

I reckon Salah and Diaz might leave this summer. Which might well buy Nunez a reprieve as we can't flog the lot. Salah has to go, no way we should re-sign him and we can't lose him for free next year. Diaz wants out so let's get rid.

You are wrong, there is another thing that is at play here that no one has mentioned, and it is Klopp related. Forget all this high chances that he has missed for one second. In Klopp's time with us, the guy that has provided the base for the strikers in Mane/Salah was Bobby, there was this predictable pattern that existed based on responsibilities if midfield/attack and dare I say it the timing of players when/where to occupy spaces seemed was like clock-work.

The year we get Nunez - Mane leaves who was a fighter in our team, Bobby for the most part is injured, and our midfield don't have any legs - so I am not counting shit on that season the problems were systemic across the team. So lets focus on what we do now, - the issue we have is that now we have very progressive midfielders, there is no bobby to orchestrate the attack pattern - we have this chaotic way of playing and attacking where I think high rate chances fall to our strikers when they are not expecting them or ready for them instinctively. That chaotic type of attacking is down to our coaching team. Look at Man City/Arsenal this season - there is a predictable attacking pattern to their movement which means their scorers are in position to do the damage in what I regard as lesser occupied space than what we at LFC are used to.

How does this relate to Klopp ? - he's got past in this - I remember reading a story of him meeting our data team and them telling him that his problematic season at Dortmund was strange because they had so many chances that were not put away, and it was a confirmation for him - that he did everything right but for bad luck/timing etc. call it what you want - but it's probably the same shit we witnessed at LFC this season - we create the most chances but fail to put them away. We saw Salah miss some sitters this season as well, its the chaos that also contributes to the miss-firing strike force.

So my theory is - that if Slot can add structure to our attack - then our strikers might be better prepared to put the ball away because they expect it and know what to do.

I think you’re glossing over big chances missed.

I’m not a fan of xG but loads of nerds are. If Nunez has performed better than xG once in 5 seasons but worse in four, what do you think will happen next season?

Chelsea need to turn up with £65m for him so I can start enjoying the memes and miss compilations instead of clinging onto any small, piece of nerdy trivia that suggests be might be a footballer.

Hope West Ham do us another favour.
Cole, Downing, Big Andy...

I still think there's a decent player in there; just not for a team with aspirations.

He'll go to west ham and bang in 20 a season on the league.

He doesn't speak English and during that dressing room speech none of the Spanish lads sat next to him so I guess he just didn't know what was going on
