Dirk was amazing. I mean jaw-droppingly amazing. There were games were I thought he was going to die out on the pitch, he ran so hard, chased every lost cause. I swear to God, I feared for his health. People questioned his technical ability, and he did have times when his touch wasn't exactly silky. But even on those days he more than warranted his place on the pitch through his unstinting tenacity. He was also sublimely skillful and creative on his day. Watch that Torres vid and see how much he owed to Kuyt's service, his runs, his selflessness. He never ever once hid. He was always available for the ball, running into the 95th minute with leaden legs. His shoulders never slumped, his drive never lessened. His penos were nerveless. His goals crucial. His heart was gargantuan. Kuyt was amazing.

God what a write up! Love it.
Made me feel like this time I fingered Charmain Porter in her ma's bedroom.
Maria Mckee 'show me heaven' playing on cassette, my aul lad strainin at the zipper.
Bless you Dirk.

Players like Dirk Kuyt will quickly become legends wherever they go. He was a fan favourite at Utrecht, a legend at Feyenoord, Liverpool, and I am sure he will be a fan favorite at Fenerbache. If he had gone to Newcastle/West Ham/Spurs instead of us, he would have been a legend there.

He quickly understands the pulse of the club and the fans and acts appropriately. Watching him play one gets the impression that he feels truly privileged to play football. That aspect of him echoes with the fans.

Effort, Commitment, Passion, and ability to rise to the big occasion.
