The curious case of Naby Keita

Keita was starting to show real progress before that season ending injury with some great performances, hopefully he can continue from there.

Dont think this is anything like the Tim Vickery Lucas stuff. Keita was boss in Germany and has proven what he can contribute.
Need to step up this season and be more involved and consistent.

He hasn't proven that much really. He had a good spell when he managed to stay fit for a few games and he scored "a" goal. This is the sort of the territory where we usually end up, where people overstate what someone has contributed/shown because they've been unavailable alot. Let's be honest, in reality, for the fee, he's been a massive, massive let down.

My memories of him last season are a goal I can barely recall and one great pass against one of the dregs of the league. I don't think that's "proving he can contribute" at all, he's shown minor glimpses of quality for what was a huge fee. His injury record has been pretty dire too, that's not his fault but he can only be judged on what he's offered, which has been fluctuating availability and not enough quality.

He had his year in the prem, so it's "go" time for him. I agree that he failed to meet expectations.

He's been shite, but new season clean slate. There's defo a footy player in there somewhere, I'm not sure if his head is up to dealing with being at a big club. We'll see fairly soon this season

He scored two goals in that period I believe

Edit - three, in fact, against Southampton, Porto & Huddersfield

At times kieta Looked like a lost puppy.he needs to impose himself more in games and not wait for things to happen. He only needs to watch fab, who do this so well

You could try comparing him to other players that have taken time to bed into the team. Naby was excellent for RB Leipzig but Liverpool are a different machine and being surrounded by different cogs, he needs to fit his new space and be finely tuned. His injury hasn't helped either.

He wasn’t signed for 8m with low expectations like Robbi. We broke the bank for him and it was bought because he was seen as someone to drive us on in the middle of the park. He was signed to be a guaranteed starter who would be a game changer.

His injury didn’t help and maybe he’ll come good but last season he was as big a let down as you can be

I'd tell you you're exaggerating unecessarily here, but you're probably the expert in the field.

Can I suggest that in future you try to accept that sometimes players arrive with great expectations but sadly fail to hit the ground running. Alex O, had trouble adapting to Klopp's system, Fabinho, took a good while to adapt and over time, there may have been just one or two others. Add into the equation that each player is an individual that will acclimatise to league, system, team, food, language, culture and even the climate, at different rates. Expectations were high and we all hoped for more, but to claim he was, "as big a let down as you can be." is just about as ridiculous as you can get.

Yep, as said earlier, it's a new season so it's time to wipe the slate clean. Hopefully he stays fit and pushes on. It's not really surprising that Pat has exaggerated his way through this one though, I mean, it's an easy win today for City too, says the superfan.

Before he got injured he was really starting to find his feet. Some really good performances, in between some not so good, but things were looking up. Make or break season? Possibly so.

Let’s be real here, bar a handful of appearances he was dreadful last season.

Any sort of a passable input this season would be a huge improvement.
You really are a massive downer. I’m saying you should be happy clappy, but you are at least consistently being a twat.

He made a difference when he came on, we need a player like he or Ox in our midfield.

Agreed. Even more so against weaker opposition. I feel he is up to speed with the league, opponents, physicality and our own style now. We just need him to convert that into performances.

Yep, I can see him scoring quite a few goals from midfield if he manages that too, he seems to get in the right positions very often, just needs some more conviction and confidence when converting, I'm sure that'll come.

Hardly an exaggeration and not sure what the correlation between that a friendly prediction is but hey ho.

I’ve never claimed to be a superfan thank you.

His national coach was fired recently for ignoring injury notes from doctors I heard, which is probs part of Keitas issue
