The captaincy this season

Should it be coming off Henderson this season? He's played about 25 games a season over the last 2yrs and there are murmurings that he's actually proper knackered. He's not really captain material for me anyway, but I'm just thinking whether we should give it to someone else who can play most of the season?

Is the captaincy an important role on the field anymore? There's not really any old school captains in the premier league at all now.

I'd have thought the likely candidates if we do move it (bad bunch) are:

Matip
Milner (if not replaced by a proper LB this summer)
Firmino

?

Remember not that long ago when we had about 6 players in the first 11 that could be captain. Gerrard, Hyypia, Carragher, Macherano, Alonso, Reina, Torres, Kuyt. As Rosco says, now we've got no one that stands out.

I wouldn't take it off him at this point as I don't see a strong long term candidate in our squad. Perhaps one will emerge or be purchased but until then it can stay with Hendo.

I'd give it to a player who's on the pitch most of the season and the players respect and 'follow' into battle.
Our only player who demands the ball ... and wills us forward is Coutinho.
Captain material? Doubt it but at least he's on the pitch most of the time!

Theres about three decent ones that won't play much, and another hand full of average ones that will. It's about picking the best of a bad bunch, much like when Henderson was chosen. The least worst captain.

Limited options in terms of starters, and I've always thought the role is overrated, but maybe Mignolet.
Not sure it's wise to give it to a GK under current regulations meaning only the captain has a right to go and discuss decisions with the referee.

Henderson seems to be the only obvious choice though Can could be too .. if he was a guaranteed starter, which he isn't. Coutinho and Milner only other serious options.

I disagree with the Henderson not being captain material bit but he can't continue as captain when playing so few games.

Matip maybe, Milner if he's our starting left back would be my choices.

Henderson
Milner
Lucas (urgh)
Lallana
Coutinho

That would be mine, and probably Klopp's, order of captaincy.

Lucas is the obvious choice for captain. Too bad he's goner.
Hendo ain't got shit on him.

Give it Coutinho. Sure, he's never going to be the greatest leader, but he's likely to be one of the most consistent players, has everyone's respect and is definitely above Henderson in the pecking order. The rest aren't so clear cut. If Matip's injury record hadn't been so bad, he'd have been a shout and Can's future is up in the air, so unless he confirms that, I can't see how he can have it.
