The prospect of Everton and Liverpool sharing a new super-stadium has provoked quite a response on Merseyside.

I think most of the supporters in the North West are not in favour of their team’s leaving their respective historic homes.

And of course I know the area well having played for Liverpool.

My repeated remarks that Liverpool would be better off without manager Rafa Benitez have caused quite a stir at my old club.

And at the risk of upsetting Kop fans again, I firmly believe that a ground share with Everton would be in both their best interests.

I’ve been lucky enough to have watched a couple of games in the Allianz Arena in Munich where both Bayern and 1860 and play.

Now us Englishmen like to be stubborn and conservative when it comes to stadia, but I think a shared Merseyside stadium would be a great idea.

Both clubs are struggling for money and could do with the extra revenue from improved corporate facilities a new ground would provide.

And with technology now, there is no reason why both club’s history and flavour couldn’t be captured in a shared ground.

In Munich on Bayern matchdays, the stadium turns red, on 1860 Munich’s matchdays, blue is the colour.

And I would defy you to find one fan of either to say the 66,000-seater stadium, shared since the start of the 2005/06 season, isn’t an incredible arena.

It’s all about fans at the end of the day, and the noise and character they bring that makes it home - not the old fashioned notion of “homeâ€.

If it’s good enough for AC Milan who have won European Cups since ground-sharing with Inter, then its good enough for us in England, surely?

Know the area well? The deranged tool lived with his mum in Stafford.

Amazing that there has been no or is no push for the following clubs to share:

Sheff Wed and Utd
Man City and Utd
Arsenal and Spurs
Forest and County
Rangers and Celtic
etc etc

And yet we constantly have to have ill informed outsiders telling us, what is best for us!

Aah, good old Stanley Victor !

He comes out with some pearls.

Shouts them, actually.

Why does he talk on the radio as if he's in a war zone ?

Yes, piss off Stan, you know bugger all.........I was reading some of this shite yesterday, why is everyone poking their nose into our business with our ground all the time.
There seems to be some sort of campaign in certain areas to force us down that route. No other high profile clubs in this country do it and several in Europe are trying to move away from it.
Arsenal have not long built their new ground and Spurs are to sort theirs out shortly, no one has suggested ground-share there either.

regards

The reason being that most of those cities do not have 2 clubs who are both looking to build new stadiums and neither of whom can afford it!

Most of them are happy in their own stadiums and those who are looking to move (well, Spurs) have planning permission and can apparently afford it

I agree that it actually makes no sense for us and Everton to share when you actually think about it but I can see why people in the media jump to the conclusion that it should be an option

Well, there's going to be an empty Olympic Stadium in three years time, so there ought to be at least some speculation about two London clubs sharing it, but nothing so far - just improbable talk about West Ham attempting to take it on alone.

The point is, shared stadia has never been a talking point for any of those clubs or cities, even when most needed updated facilities. It seems, though, that every Tom, Dick and Collymore knows what is best for us and our horrible neighbours.

Liverpool is more than capable of accomodating two large football stadiums with their own unique indentities, and would if not for mismanagment at club and council level, not to mention the obvious agenda of agencies like the NWDA, who have been pushing for a shared stadium for as long as I can remember.

Well of course it would make sense, but what can be done if none of then want to move? They all have stadiums or have permission and money to build their own

Well has there been a time when any of those cities have had 2 clubs who want new stadiums at the same time but neither of whom, for planning or financial reasons, can go ahead with them?

Both Sheffield clubs are currently trying to update their current stadiums in line with the WC recomendations. Basically they both need a complete overhaul. Surely it makes more sense for two smaller clubs with less money and status?

They are indeed, but I think they are attempting to update their stadiums rather than move to new ones. If they wanted to move to new stadiums the same arguments would probably be thrown at them, and would probably seem just as silly to supporters of those clubs as the idea in Liverpool seems to us

Has there not been musings about new locations? It must have been an option at some stage, yet not a peep. I'm sure it would be silly to the fans, yes, but that doesn't stop the meeja having their say about us sharing. That Patrick Barclay is the worst, one smug twat who genuinely believes his input on this issue is extra important.

It may not be suggested for other clubs but we've only got ourselves to blame for the constant 'advice' from elsewhere.

Arsenal had the means to build and stadium and got on with it. As I suspect Spurs will do also.

We promise the world and deliver nothing.

Didn't we start our plans around the same time as Arsenal in the late 90's?

Moores should have had it boxed off long before them, the useless dithering cunt.

Arsenal also got a bit lucky in that they secured the finance pre credit crisis.

Could Everton even afford the joint costs of a shared stadium based on Championship revenue?
