If you had an app which exported the final scores to a text file that would be a start. Then if you had a short script to read the file and return a 1 if we'd won or a 0 if we'd lost, we'd be getting somewhere at this point. You could then wire up your phone to a detonator placed under your bed, which you set to explode and kill you if a 0 is received. Now all you do is go to bed before kick-off and record the match for later (in fact the timings would make this ideal for someone like Ryan). Now in the morning you will always wake up in a version of reality where we win every game we ever play, forever.

'I never wanted to belong to any club that would have someone like me as a member' seems the appropriate quote at this point.

First of all great thread, and discussion on this matter. When we signed upt to BR, and his tactics of short passing etc.. the first thing I did is look up all the Swansea city results of last season:

http://www.statto.com/football/teams/swansea-city/2011-2012/results

Reading from that site I can see wins against Arsenal, Man City, and Us (but don't know if we can be counted as a top team last season). There were some close results at home against the big boys in terms of low scoring losses to them, and draws (e.g. Chelsea 1-1 ). However, looking at the table you can see that they drew 11 times with different types of opponents which kind of had me worried as thats the kind of shit we had last season. The thing thats the potential game changer for BR is that he has an overall better quality of players (allegedly !!!) in defence and attack. So I expect him to win quite a few of the drawn games from last season he had with Swansea. However, like someone has already pointed out - he maybe surprised just as he has been in the transfer market - that when you manage liverpool player prices go up when you want to buy, and teams playing away from home tend to park the fucking bus in front of their goal. So if he can deal with that, it will be a good thing. The best part of the results from last season was that he beat West Brom home and away - but they have a new manager now so that presents a different challenge.

The sad thing is - he ain't got much time to get his ideas going as the schedule for us against the top teams is a nasty one !!! I think we may be able to win against them if the players quickly adapt to his new playing style BUT I have a feeling we will lose to Man City - mainly because they have the same team as last season and have nothing new to get use to, while we will not be fully running by then.

Good points moron, thanks for bringing the thread back on topic. Yup, It boils down to whether with slightly better players, if the system, which has some familiarity to the philosophy that built the club, will deliver better results against top 6 teams. It should negate the park the bus teams a little more often, que non?

Maybe but my experience of wathing games where one team parks bus is that they always end in a draw no matter how good the attacking team. i fear we may get caught on the break. much will depend on suarez using his trickery to break down those stubborn defences. whats even more weird is that last season teams like city and spurs defended heavily in league matches at anfield.

We have suffered last season against teams that have no ambition to win games at Anfield and is happy with a point. This season we all hope that will not be the case. Will we succeed, we have to wait and see. Against the top 4, the question is do we have the desire to beat them. I think last year we did. This year we await more of the same. Hopefully.

Having seen some Rodgers initial games, I have a feeling we'll do pretty good, against the mid table teams, the bane of our life last year. My question is - how will he handle the big games, you know the ones that Kenny won fairly frequently. United, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, effectively 25% of our season. Does he have the mettle to go tete a tete with these clubs and their star powah?
I expect very little in our opening 5 games. Hopefully 7 points but possibly only 1. And if that happens I won't be panicing. It's going to take time our fixtures are a f*cking joke.

I'm absolutely delighted by this - the last time DB was certain we would have a smashing season was when Woy took over and he was certain we were rubbish when Rafa's team we're dismantling the likes of Man Utd & Real Madrid comphrensively.

I still remember the thread title, something like "Excited about the new season and our return to the Top four". Sorry Pat. One poster in particular kept hammering you over the years on it, hence the memory.

And what about the games vs City, United, Arsenal Chelsea etc., beyond the start. Whats your expectations?
