The Big Question

Having seen some Rodgers initial games, I have a feeling we'll do pretty good, against the mid table teams, the bane of our life last year. My question is - how will he handle the big games, you know the ones that Kenny won fairly frequently. United, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, effectively 25% of our season. Does he have the mettle to go tete a tete with these clubs and their star powah?

DA is just too ambitious for me. BA seems more realistic. I can't take the disappointment of last season again... 😉

Rodgers looking to win over fans

By ESPN staff
Brendan Rodgers feels he has a lot to prove at Liverpool and believes the majority of the club's fans are "still not sure" about his appointment.
Liverpool 3-1 Bayer Leverkusen

After a hugely impressive spell in charge of Swansea City, Rodgers arrived at Anfield looking to revitalise the club after the sacking of fans' favourite Kenny Dalglish.

"I do feel at home but I will never be complacent," he said. "I'm sure the majority of supporters are still not sure about me. I've got so much to prove here. I have got to fight for my life to prove I am good enough to be here.

"I feel comfortable in relation to my position and work on the field. My promise was to fight for the club every single day.

"We're in a good moment and a good position. We've had a terrific pre-season and we've already started our competitive games in the Europa League. We now arrive into the Barclays Premier League next week with a real strong mindset, and hopefully that can continue.

"Certainly, I am very, very pleased with where we're at. The players have shown great determination and they want to learn. They're very happy to work in this way. I am delighted with where we're at because I know the vision and where this leads to, and hopefully it will continue to improve."

It also appears that Andy Carroll, who rejected a move to West Ham United earlier this summer, could have a place in the manager's plans.
Rodgers had indicated that Carroll would be allowed to leave Anfield, but the England striker scored for the Reds against Leverkusen and Rodgers said: "The poor guy got stuck with it that he can't play this way, but it was a wonderful piece of skill."

Yes.

I think he is going to lose some, draw a few and probably win the rest

To put a number on it, out of a possible 30 points from these games folks, what's your prediction, and end of season. we'll take a look. I am predicting, 23. Two draws, one loss, and the rest Rodgers wins..

Wimp! A new season is like being reborn, the disappointments of yesteryear shoudl be put to one side and an unbridled optimism adopted, as this WILL be our year!

Ok, I'll upgrade the optimism on BA a little. Not to DA standards mind

That's a bit over optimistic I think. How many points did Citeh get last season from the corresponding games?

What were Swansea's results like against the top teams last year? I don't remember them ever being turned over.

We may have a slow start to the season as the players' adaptation to the new style gets tested properly in league games, but I expect a good season overall. My answer to localny's original question is a definite "yes".

Trying to resist starting a "how many points will we get from our first six games" thread

This thread is a little easier to predict Count. On a separate note, is that wee rumor dead as a door nail?

Good man StewieM, I like this positive momentum

Rodgers is the same age as me and grew up about 15 miles away from where I did - I intend to be blindly positive about him.

However..... if you ever call me StewieM again...... I will find you. 🙂

Uh, oh, kryptonite alert.. 😉

Do you have people in common with him?

I'm sure I can do the six degrees of seperation thing on Rodgers.

My Ma will probably know someone that knows him.
