That's everyone. There's no more space. And look who's left out...kyrgiakos and lucas. They will both come in ahead of kelly or shelvey. Even if we lose an attacker like torres, i wouldn't be surprised if hodgson just picks lucas again instead of pacheco. benitez used to do shit like that all the time. that's what managers do. they're weak.

i disagree. i know maxi is a better smarter footballer, but he's just cursed. nothing falls for him, his shots are all blocked or closed down. he just, it's like the gods don't want him to score. kuyt on the other hand always manages to profit from some incredible good fortune. when you're in our position you can't afford to turn your back on a good luck charm

Each squad must include 8 homegrown players, and thus a maximum of 17 foreign players over the age of 21.

Is correct, however as Wilson is 18, by the time he hits 21 he will qualify as home grown.

N'Gog will be considered home grown from next season (as would Insua if he comes back after his loan)

He's not being 'anal', he's simply correct.

The procedure is via a web form if the player is under 21 at the start of the year and has completed at least 2.5 years within the English/Welsh FA(okay not TOTALLY accurate but you get the jist) then they are discounted. Hence, no matter what we do we can't fill all our places. We cannot add, for example, Kelly into our squad as the web app won't allow it!

The point here is we can change our mind or add free agents to our "over-21" squad in the future as we have not filled our quota. For example we may decide that Mauricio could be an emergency centre-back (shudder) and register him.

N B. You cannot simply the rule to be "17 non-compliant players over-21" as for every compliant over-21 player you add beyond the maximum (eight) you have to lose a non-compliant player from the squad.

Contrary to reports elsewhere, players aged under 21 can, if required, be named in the 25-man squad as a home-grown player. An Under-21 player is defined as being born on or after January 1, 1989.

Clubs can use an unlimited number of Under-21 players in addition to their 25-man squad. For instance, Chelsea would not need to name Daniel Sturridge or Gael Kakuta in their 25-man squad.

Any player who is left out of the 25-man squad will only be eligible to play in the Carling Cup until January 1. From January 1 to January 31, clubs can make unlimited changes to their 25-man squad. On February 1 a new 25-man squad must be named to run until the end of the current campaign.

If a club chooses fewer than 25 players for their squad it is almost certainly due to them having a large number of under-21 players. Clubs with fewer than 25 players in their squad are still permitted to sign free agents.

But the question remains... why would you register an U21 in your squad of 25 when they can play if they're not registered in the 25.

In any case... we didn't register any of our U21's in the 25.
 
You don't have to name a full 25, but you do have to name 8 home-grown players in your list (we named U-21s Spearing and Darby in ours to reach the magic number).

Both Spearing & Darby are classified as over 21 since they were both born in 1988. You have to be born after 1/1/89 to classified U21 this season.

We could have sent the same list without their name on. We kept them as they seem to add something to our squad.
