YOUNG Liverpool prospect David Amoo will have the chance to shine in front of a Merseyside crowd tomorrow evening after Tranmere’s festive holiday game against Bury was given the go-ahead.
Part of the Main Stand at Prenton Park will be closed off as a safety measure for the League One fixture (kick-off 7.45pm). A section of the roof of the stand blew off on Boxing Day, causing the holiday game against Rochdale to be postponed 90 minutes before kick-off.
Rovers are carrying out repairs to the roof following an inspection by a structural engineer. Spectators will be kept away from the area of the stand where the work is underway and arrangements are being made for season-ticket holders to watch the game from other parts of the ground.
But fears the game could be in jeopardy have been allayed – and that’s good news for loan star Amoo, who is the man in form in the Bury side.
The 20-year-old winger has made such a strong impression with the Shakers that manager Richie Barker asked Liverpool to extend the loan until the end of the season.
Barker says the word from Anfield is that the formalities will be tied up within a few days. “It is nearly done,” Barker said.
“David’s agreed and we’re just waiting for their secretary to get back to us with the paperwork. With a bit of luck, that will be done and we’ll have him until the end of the season."
Amoo was in compelling form on Boxing Day, helping Bury to a 3-1 win at Scunthorpe.
“He is an important part of what we’re trying to do,” Barker said.
“If you are going to win football matches, you need someone like David who is a bit different. We keep trying to reiterate to David what he has got, what he can do and what he brings to us.
“If he believes in what we are trying to do and keeps letting us help him out, he will become a real player.”
Londoner Amoo joined Liverpool’s academy as a 16-year-old after leaving Millwall. He signed a two-year professional contract At Anfield in 2010 and was named in the 2009-10 Champions League squad.
Amoo is yet to make a first-team appearance for Liverpool but he played three League One games for MK Dons in the early months of this year and seven Championship games for Hull City in another loan spell last season. He began his current loan spell with Bury towards the end of September and has scored two goals in nine League One appearances for the Shakers.
