Thankyou Spurs (and do they fall apart?)

Just thought I'd take time to say thanks to Spurs for being a part of the occasion and generally being good losers considering how much hurt they must feel.

I took a little gander at one of their fan forums and some seem to think they will have 200m to spend this summer to rebuild ' do a Liverpool' and that all will be good.

But I'm not sure they will be able to replicate what we have done and bounce back. For starters, some of their players are on ridiculously low wages, which will soon change as their agents bang on Levy's door. So that's one thing, increase the pay of the current star players and then they have to find replacements for those that already have one foot out the door.

Totally different from Liverpool's situation. Over the last two years, FSG has carefully been renewing our best players contracts. Last season when we lost we weren't in trouble of losing any of our players (Emre aside) and we were already halfway through addressing the issue of rewarding our key players. I think now its only really VVD and Milner that need their contracts redoing. Being in that situation meant Klopp could concentrate on getting the best out of a settled squad.

Spurs job is two-fold, firstly increase wages to key players who are earning less than the market level and then bring in star players to make the team better than it is now (and do all that whilst paying off the mortgage on a 1 billion pound stadium) I think Spurs fans underestimate the value of contracts and wages, I believe Klopp recently said that we wouldn't be going crazy transfer wise because the bulk of the finances was being spent on contract renewals. I think Poch has all weighed up in is head hence the strange comments he was making before the game. Will he walk? At least if he does he won't be at the wheel at united lol

On another note people saying we have to worry about our front three being swayed away by the likes of Munich, PSG, Barca and Real, however, I think Spurs Son is going to be this year target more so than any of our players. I for one would love it if Liverpool were at the front of the queue for him, he is a massive threat of a player, Sonaldo!

My Juventus mate says they are after Pochettino. He would prefer Klopp though, I told him no way in hell is Jurgen going there.

Fuck Spurs.

The can shove their plucky loserness up their arse.

I hope Juve or Barca pluck Pochettino soon, because I can see him doing well if he goes to Utd.

If United had any sense they's bite the bullet and sack Ole Gollum now and offer the job to Poch. He'd turn them around.

Spurs are a strange one at the minute. I think the stadium should hamstring them financially for a while, but then there's lots of talk about them being able to spend.

However, their squad is incredibly thin, Eriksen and Alderweireld seem to be on their way, Trippier too, and Pochettino will leave soon.

They're not in the same position we were in a year ago. They've just lost 20 (TWENTY!) games in a season. They need to recruit a lot of players, and invest more in wages than they are doing. We were a couple of players away from the top last year. We went and got them. Spurs need much more than that.

They'll probably get top 4 again next season, but this isn't the dawn of some unstoppable Spurs team. Poch may have taken them as far as he possibly can.

It's all about Pochettino. He's brilliant. If he goes they'll struggle to stay in the top 4.

I was terrified of him going to Utd. United fans I know thought it was just a brave face when I was crowing about them appointing Olly instead, but it was an obvious fuck up.

Maybe the biggest of all in the incredible line of massive fuck ups they've made since Woodwards been running things.

Juve have all but got Sarri I've read. Poch will stay put until/unless Real Barca ditch Valverde, then he'll be off in a flash.

What?

You mean Barca I think Froggy, but I had heard that as an Espanyol legend, as both player and manager, Barcelona is impossible. It would be like Tim Cahill / Duncan Ferguson or Wayne Rooney managing Liverpool or something.

No, he means Real, but got the manager wrong. I hope.

Because it's always been Real. he'd never ever manage Barca, because what you said

If they start the new season as poorly as they finished the last one I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Ratboy does get the boot and they make a push for Pochettino, who'd be perfect for the rebuilding job they need doing (less convinced he'll be the man to take them back to winning things later on). I don't reckon it's nailed on that he'd go for it though, especially if Levy finally decides to loosen the purse strings.

Lol I was going to comment the same, can't see Poch at Barca...

Yeah not sure where the money is coming from at all. Sure they will have prize money like us but unless their players are happy to earn less than the market value then I think they will move on. Tottenham will have to pay to play for their own players let alone outside targets.

I believe Erickson and Toby are on less than 100k, which is stunning to be honest.

You'll have to forgive a lack of clarity. I've been drinking all weekend and was up at 4.30 for flight back from Lisbon this morning.

I'm completely wiped.

No point Poch going to United. He wants the Real job and he's already had job offers from them for the job he's doing at Spurs. Going to United could easily send his career backward for very minimal upside. They've got a worse squad, worse owners, worse structure and arguably a worse stadium now. The only upside United have is the transfer and wage budget, but given the job at hand, I think he's best staying put until Zidane fucks off again.

One of my Spurs mates is calling this the end of an era. Even if it is just Toby & Eriksen who leave, he thinks Lloris is also potentially heading towards the exit. They are pessimistic about replacing these chaps with quality players given their financial commitments to the new stadium.

If you’ve got spurs players on what they say low wages surely bringing in new players will upset the apple cart a bit like the Sanchez & pogba situation at scum not that I give a piss frig, I think a new manager would drop them out of the top four.

You been on the mojitos again? I get you. United messed up big time in not trying to get poch. Ole will be just the same again next year, by then poch may well be in Spain or Italy if he's not give reassurances from levy.

Good point, the long term stars like Ali will be well upset if player x comes in with higher wages. This is where I think Liverpool have been smart, we've tied down our top players to incentive based wages/bonuses relative to the going market value.

Spurs do kind of have to what they've been doing already but do it that even better, that is to identity top quality players at bargain prices and integrate them into the team. It is possible to do but they aren't going to be able to say that they have as complete a squad as us next year.

Whereas we have the luxury of letting some of our players go, Spurs will struggle to keep some of their stars happy.

IF they could do so for big cash I would sell Kane, IMHO without him, they play better. Yes he does score goals, he is a good finisher but at the same time he is repeatedly injured and that's never a good sign. The vast majority of folk have him down as world class but I genuinely still can't see it myself...

IF they could do a Coutinho style cash fall I actually think it would help them.

Erikssen may well be looking to move on also but then he is moving towards the end of his career now and I don't see Spurs winning the big trophies...

Centre backs are also not spring chickens...

They have problems and if they are going to be spending the next 10 years financing their new lovely stadium... hmmm...

keeping hold of Son and Moura and Pochettino should be highest on their priorities.
