Ivan Klasnic, the Croatia striker who John Terry claims spat at him during England's 5-1 win on Wednesday night, has accused the Chelsea defender of punching him in the kidneys.

Klasnic, who signed for Bolton during the summer, denies spitting at Terry and says he only got into a confrontation with the defender after he attacked him.

"He [Terry] hit me with a fist exactly in the place I've been operated," said Klasnic, who had a double kidney transplant in 2007. "I was lucky to be wearing a belt. He is the first player who has tried to hit me with a purpose in the kidney. He insulted me first then he hit me. And now he has accused me of spitting at him? I didn't do it."

The Bolton manager, Gary Megson, added: "Ivan told me he has spoken with Terry and they have had a private word and the matter is between them. It was private so I don't know what was said but, as I understand, it has been sorted."

Seems strange that after thrashing Croatia Terry, on a high, would hit him without any sort of provocation.

If Klasnic did spit at him then he got what was coming to him. It is a very Mediteranean thing to do though so more than likely it went : Spit, Punch, Cry.

I'd assume it was during. But i'm sure Terry is well capable of silently waiting around a corner to deliver a low blow aswell.

Klasnic supposedly spat at him at the end of the match (see photos in the press of tete a tete). I would surmise it was in the tunnel.

Not in the place where his organ has failed him. And he is supposed to be the captain, the person who is to lead, show discipline in times of despicable behaviour of an opponent, restrain from doing exactly this type of thing. Not trying to hold Gerrard on a moral high ground but wasn't he spat on by Alex Frei in Euro 2004 and he didn't react....although this could be because Gerrard was none-the-wiser at the time, i'm not sure. But it's not looking good for the Croatians, especially with Eduardo's dive just a few weeks ago.

It'll certainly make the Chelsea - Bolton encounter next month a little more interesting.

Fair (about the location of the punch) IF Terry knew he'd had the operation and did it deliberately.

But I doubt he has the restraint and intelligence to be THAT calculated in response to just being spat a' i' d' face...
