Breaking: Terry charged by FA: "alleged he used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards A Ferdinand contrary to FA rules"

Dan Roan@danroan
"it's further alleged this included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Ferdinand." Terry has until 3 Aug to respond.

After seeking advice from an external Independent QC, and having considered the evidence and Magistrates' Court decision in the John Terry case, The FA has today charged the Chelsea player following an alleged incident that occurred during the Queens Park Rangers versus Chelsea fixture at Loftus Road on 23 October 2011.

It is alleged that Terry used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Queens Park Rangers’ Anton Ferdinand, contrary to FA rules.

It is further alleged that this included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Anton Ferdinand.

This charge is the result of The FA’s long-standing enquiries into this matter, which were placed on hold pending the outcome of the criminal trial, and relates to rules governing football only.

During this period John Terry remains available to play for England.

Terry has until 3 August 2012 to respond.

The FA will make no further comment during this tim

'An external independent QC'? Coo, they're quite rare. The FA should start advertising its tribunals more widely: 'Having problems with your war crimes trial? Send the bastard to us - we'll have him sentenced within a week! We'll get Alan bloody Mullery to bang his gavel! Sorted!!!'

Wasn't he charged with a different offence in court though?

It's the "Terry used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Queens Park Rangers’ Anton Ferdinand, contrary to FA rules"

It doesn't matter if he repeated them or it was his own thoughts, he used them words

The FA have no choice, the true right outcome here would have been Suarez and Terry being banned for two games.

Presumably 'I refer you to the judgement in a court of law'. Much as I loathe Terry, I find the FA's bizarre desire to revert to medieval bases of authority and truth even more distasteful.

It's the Court of the Star Chamber all over again!

I don't think the English Courts should be allowed to get away with back-heeling responsibility for on-field incidents to professional associations like the FA who have demonstrated that their approach to justice is similar to Stalin's.

Arf. And sob.

The FA are incompetence personified. They've really painted themselves into a corner following the Suarez judgment. They now have to act.

If they are continuing to decide matters on the basis of probability then there is no mitigation possible from Terry, he's already admitted using the words.

Now every allegation is going to end up with bans. They've left themselves with nowhere to go. It serves them and their apologists right.

*Happily imagines Terry being sent for a 25 year stretch in a Siberian gulag*

Do you think there's a chance the FA. Might re-introduce public flogging or hanging as punishment for onfield transgressions.

The TV rights would be worth a fortune.

"Tonight on pay-per-view : John Terry gets a public flogging, and on the undercard a good beating dished out to Joey Barton. Coming soon - how will Patrice Evra cope with a red hot poker rammed up his jacksie?".

I'd pay for that.....

Hardly, he only admitted to using the words in denying the use of them.

VEry very different.

Jexy is right. The FA's ridiculous rules make it an offence just to say the word(s), regardless of meaning or intent.

This is not true. The words have to be abusive/insulting. For example when you report it to the referee as in "Oi! Ref, Ref, he called me a nigger", that is not abusive/insulting. Otherwise Evra should have been charged for using racist words toward the ref. He wasn't. In the exact same way, Terry should not be charged because simply repeating back something for the purposes of denying you said it is not abusive/insulting. The FA are retarded.
