Ten Hag

I've seen one or two suggestions that ten Hag is Rangnick's choice and that the idea is for the two of them to start giving that club the kind of structure on the football side that they've missed ever since Woodward replaced David Gill. Where that leaves Woodward himself I wouldn't know, besides which there seems to be ongoing doubt about whether he's about to buzz off anyway, so they could be in for new turmoil behind the scenes just as ten Hagrid arrives.

Couldn't happen to a nicer club.
I think Woodward is leaving at the end of the season if he hasn't left already.
His replacement is already selected.

I knew the plan was for him to be gone, but that was postponed so he could "help" stabilise things at a difficult time. If they've picked his successor (who BTW?) I guess he must be on his bike soon. One Manc I know is no fan of his at all and reckons David Gill has been as big a miss for them as Ginsoak himself.

Club's a mess. Harry "The Sloth" Maguire, Pogba and the rest. Lazy team. Made a mess of Rashford, fantastic potential but turned inside out by manager after manager, telling him how to play. Ditto Martial. Ten Hag might improve them but if he doesn't do a root and branch clear out, the rot will just fester.

I've been saying for years now that these are their Souness years, where they're still an enormous name, they have the occasional moment where they win something small, they flatter to deceive, they have several false dawns, but they no longer really challenge for the biggies, teams no longer fear them, and they slowly but surely slip gradually back to the mid-table pack...

Would that make the appointment of Ten Hag the beginning of their Rafa period? He could well make them better, but that whole club is many years away from truly competing at the highest levels again.

And then there's the question of their owners... Van Gaal was right recently - They're a brand now, not a top-flight football team. Until that changes, I'm not sure that it matters who they appoint as manager.

Seems like Pochettino has been the obvious choice for them for about 5 years and each time they seem to find some creative way to fuck things up.

It's pretty great.

Nah..he's been punching above his weight since he left Southampton. Spurs P &O'd him as Spurs were a lowly 14th. May be they should've gone for him...just about suits them..a bluffer..

Since The Old Soak packed up...Moyes,Giggs,Van Gaal,Mourinho,Solskjaer,Carrick,Rangnick and now Ten Hag...probably finish 10th as well..

Agree. He's not the man to go for if a club is ready to challenge for trophies (witness his time at PSG) but he IS excellent at improving clubs and getting them to the level from which they can then push on. He established Southampton as a Premier League side and frankly worked wonders to get Tottenham to the CL Final carrying an unfit Kane. It's a question of horses for courses and Pochettino would suit ManUre to a T just now.

Liverpool was actually in semi-ok condition when Klopp came in. Klopp defoe still had to drag the club up professionally and psychologically, but Liverpool had the foundations already in place.

Whereas with United its a complete "gut job" that they need to do. Can one manager do that in the time that United and fans will allow, I doubt it....Also with Liverpool never had the level of egos that Ten haaag will have to deal with, that's another level of work.

Things at LFC got pretty bad under Uncle Roy in the 90s. Souness had accepted that his tough guy approach wasn't working out and left, we appointed Uncle Roy who went too far in the opposite direction, then McManaman dominated him and led some of the other players into the Spice Boys era. It wasn't until GH became sole manager that we got somebody in charge who was nasty enough to clean the stables and lay the foundations for something better. He did that to good effect but ultimately proved not to be the man to build on his own good work and take the team to the next level - horses for courses again.

So yes, it's absolutely going to be a job for more than one manager. I hoped that when Ginsoak buggered off they'd return to the doldrums they experienced for a quarter of a century when Matt Busby retired decades ago. Those hopes are apparently coming true now and it's great to see. History CAN repeat itself. :vamp:

yeah, how it pans out depends completely on the structure around the manager
also needs a clear out of cunts and underachievers - pogba, ronaldo for starters
also funny that they best talent is going to jail

Does that mean they’re going to make Fat Sam their Hodgson and then bring back Ginsoak for a season.

I’d fucking love that.
