I really hate putting Babel's name in a starting XI but who else do we have, given that Yossi, Aurelio and Riera are all injured? Dossena?!
Actually I'd love Rafa to give Pacheco a go, but perhaps Man City isn't the ideal game to do that...

Aquilani over Lucas is probably wishful thinking, but surely he must start his first game soon?
it doesn't matter if aquilani doesn't play this season - we bought him for 5 seasons remember, gotta think long term. longest bloody 8 weeks i've ever seen.
no matter what lucas and a completely out of form kuyt will start.
i wonder if rafa subs our better players if we're losing with 20 minutes to go to save them for the european game.

I'm not denying he is in the squad, just that it has been discussed to death (same goes for Nemeth) with people often claiming he should play on a weekly basis (even when he is injured or on international duty).

Ryan, I mentioned Pacheco at the start of the thread. He's surely likely to be in the squad simply because so many of our left-wing options are injured. I'd really like to see him start over Babel/Dossena, but it almost certainly won't happen.

YOSSI BENAYOUN and Albert Riera could be in line for a shock return to action this weekend after responding to radical treatment on their torn hamstrings.
The Liverpool midfielders were flown to Belgrade earlier this week to see Mariana Kovacevic, the physiotherapist who has become famous for curing injured sportsmen with liquid from horse placenta.
Both men were expected to be sidelined for between three to five weeks after they sustained the injuries against Birmingham last Monday.
But their condition has improved so much since seeing Kovacevic there is an outside chance of them being available for Saturday’s home clash with Manchester City.
Benayoun has been in outstanding form this season and he is quietly confident he will be back in action sooner rather than later.
“I have been in Belgrade to see her and I am feeling better already,†Benayoun confirmed. “My hope now is that I will be fit in one week, two at the most. I have a good feeling about it.â€
If either of Benayoun or Riera were available after their special treatment it would be another huge boost for Rafa Benitez, who is getting close to having his strongest team available for the first time this season.
Though neither Fernando Torres or Fabio Aurelio will be available, Steven Gerrard, Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson are all expected to figure, while David Ngog should also be included despite breaking his nose with France’s under 21's.
