Taiwo fancies a switch to the Premier League.

Reported Liverpool target Taye Taiwo has revealed he will leave Marseille in the summer after rejecting the chance to sign a new contract.

Along with the Merseysiders, Tottenham are also thought to be considering making a move for the Nigeria international who has previously stated his desire to play in the Barclays Premier League.

“If I was to depart, then I would not join a small club. It will be Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal,†Taiwo told France-Football last year.

“I am not scared by the level in England. I believe I have the right level to defend against [Wayne] Rooney." Ah... so he will not be joining Man U then

Taiwo, a powerful full-back, would be an ideal acquisition for Liverpool who are currently lacking depth at left-back after the departure of Paul Konchesky from Anfield.

Glen Johnson has recently been switched from his preferred position of right-back and - while Johnson has been competent in the recent revival under Kenny Dalglish - Liverpool are understood to be keen to bring a recognised left-sided player to fill the role.

Whether or not that player will be Taiwo remains to be seen but, should Liverpool decide to pursue their reported interest in the 25-year-old, then they are likely to have to fight off a number of other potential suitors after he revealed his representatives are already in negotiations over a proposed move.

"I have made the decision not to sign a contract extension. I want to change clubs in June," Taiwo was quoted as saying by The Nation. "My agent and I are in advanced talks with a club from one of Europe's top three leagues and I expect to reach an agreement in the near future."

"Because I said I want to leave, the coach now decides when to use me. That doesn't bother me. I have made up my mind and I have told them I'm going," he said. "For now, I will not reveal it [the club he's leaving for]. When time comes, you guys will hear about it.''

Liverpool have also been linked with Benfica's Fabio Contrao and Academy graduate Stephen Warnock in their pursuit of defensive reinforcements.

Interesting player. Has the physique, but does he have a brain to match?

Here's how I see it.

Coentrao for £20 Million (at least, I mean Luiz went for £21 million) or Taiwo for free with a hefty salary?

Or, we can sell Johnson keep Kelly at RB and choose from one of the two options above.

Or, status quo, Johnson on the left and Kelly on the right.

Fuck it let's just buy Warnock and get it over with.

taiwo but not on hefty salary. if he doesn't want to be the only true fit left back at the club then never mind. he'll be bench warming everywhere else. Clichy, cole and evra aren't poor enough to be dropped. He could be first choice and maybe kelly can be the reserve CB (his true position) next season

Generally players who join for free get a higher salary (undeserved).

Kelly doesn't deserve to be back up CB.

I don't buy this Kelly CB argument. Sure, he may have played there a lot for the reserves, but he has a cracking engine, decent pace, a great cross, and seems to relish getting forward. What's more, he has excelled himself in the right back position. As far as I'm concerned, he's quickly making that his position. Many of his strengths would be wasted as a centre back.

Many of his strengths would also be helpful at CB. Especially his pace and his height.

It's not a kelly cb argument. It's his preferred position. As he's stated.

Ideally he'll be played at full back for a while, but we need to look at the fact soto might be off, carra isn't getting younger and agger still might be an injury waiting to happen.

I understand Soto got an automatic extention to his contract by completing a set amount of games, which he fullfilled in his last apperance.

We definitely need a LB. The only recognized LB at the club right now is Aurelio and it seems as though we'd rather utilize him as a midfielder.

I'm not worried about who drops out to be honest. Kelly is still young and will get plenty of games even if he's not a first choice player.

He might have done, but other teams might still be sniffing about. Allegedly stoke were in jan

Good - he's done very well as a fourth choice CB, definitely one of Rafa's smarter signings. We wouldn't get much for him either, so I'd be inclined to keep him TBH as I think he'll do us more good on the field than on the balance sheet.

It doesn't have to be either/or with Kelly. We play him where we need him - currently that's RB, but it could well be CB or even LB in future. Ideally I'd prefer a specialist LB, but IMO Magic's form makes that a pretty low priority.

I want Coentrao.
So do I but Coentrao is gonna be expensive. I mean Benfica just sold Luiz for £21 Million how much do you think they'll ask for Coentrao?

I think Coentrao fit's FSG's profile of an *ideal* player. Splash the cash FSG!

If possible we should get both Coentrao and Taiwo. Coentrao plays beautifully as a left winger too.
I love what I've seen of Coentrao. I can see Madrid going for him in the summer, IF Mourinho is still there.

Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in Marseille left-back Taye Taiwo, who is out of contract in the summer.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson saw the 25-year-old play against Monaco last month while Manchester City, Tottenham, Juventus and Real Madrid have also watched the Nigerian recently.

He is looking for a five-year deal worth £3.5million a season.

Bull.

Man U already have Evra.
They've been linked with a number of LBs though, with rumours linking Evra to RM.

Hmm. Get Coentrao.

Apperantly there are some very strong rumours about him joining. Anyone heard this? Sunny?

Is Taiwo that good? I've seen very little of him mind but he's struck me as a little too one footed and slightly clumsy.

Tremoulinas would be my top target for left-back.

LIVERPOOL is plotting a swoop on Marseille -- for Nigerian left- back Taye Taiwo.

Kop talent - spotter Damien Comolli watched the highly - rated defender in action against Sierra- Leone in a recent friendly match in Lagos as he looks for a solution to Kenny Dalglish's problem position.

Dalglish shattered Liverpool's signing record by landing striker Andy Carroll from Newcastle and the - Geordies would demand a hefty fee for Enrique too.

However Liverpool desperately needs a recognised player in that position, with Paul Konchesky exiled at Nottingham Forest on loan and Glen Johnson filling in for the rest of the campaign.

Manchester United is also interested in Marseille left back, Taiwo, who is out of contract in the summer.

Manchester City, Real Madrid, Tottenham and Juventus have also watched the Nigerian.

Liverpool FC mulling over move for Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre

Kenny Dalglish monitored the left-back during his former club's 3-0 victory over Rangers this afternoon, which extended their lead at the summit of the SPL to eight points, as he provided an assist for Gary Hooper's second strike of the game.

The 24-year-old had become the subject of interest from Manchester United in recent weeks, with Sir Alex Ferguson attending the Scottish Cup draw between the Old Firm at Ibrox at the beginning of this month amidst fears of losing Patrice Evra to Real Madrid this summer.

But the Frenchman's decision to pen a new contract at Old Trafford, which is expected to be announced tomorrow, has seen Liverpool's biggest rival in the race for Izaguirre's signature ruled out despite Aston Villa and local rivals Everton both still remain in the hunt.

Neil Lennon had last month warned potential suitors that they would be unsuccessful in their pusuit of Izaguirre. who joined the Hoops last summer in a £580,000 deal from C.D. Motagua.

“I am not at all concerned other clubs may be looking at him," he said at the time.

"And I’m not surprised because he is a quality player.

“But, he is our player, and will not be going anywhere.â€

Izaguirre missed his country's friendly with Ecuador 12 days ago with a hamstring strain but played the full 90 minutes of Celtic's over Dundee United last Sunday, which has drawn controversy after the Honduran FA complained to FIFA about the late withdrawal.

The left-back position remains an unresolved conundrum at Anfield, with Glen Johnson deputising in the role following Dalglish's arrival whilst young Scottish defender Danny Wilson was asked to fill the void in Thursday's Europa League last 32 draw away to Sparta Prague.
From the bit I seen today of the Old Firm Derby he did like to get forward and looked a threat down the left side.
There again an eighty year old blue rinser with double incontinence would potentially be threatening in the SPL

But Evra has made no secret of the fact he may want to move on in the Summer.
