Where in the world is Clyne ? He's seemed to have vanished from the face of this earth.

Was looking at some stats and noticed that TAA is listed as 175cm.
He looks a lot taller. Has to be over 180.

Apart from his debut Gerrard played in midfield from then on though so I don't think those comparisons are doing him any favors either.

He didn't, he covered right back for a while and even played left back against Villa. He played right back in the Derby when Barmby scored against Everton and he got MotM. He initially played midfield against Boro and a few other teams (covering for and playing alongside Redknapp) but he looked lost, which he has admitted since. He went on to cover right back and then right midfield, then moved more central, then he played various roaming roles before finishing as the deep playmaker.

I remember him playing RB so good that some people like Tommy Smith were saying that maybe he should stay as a RB permanently.

Yep, though Kevin Keegan maintained he would develop into one of the best centre-halves in World football.

Lots of fans of other clubs are noticing Gomez too. A lot of mates are commenting on him. I think he'll be in the England squad for the Euros which I think would say a lot when you think about the number of defenders with England caps across Centre Back & Full Back.

Yep. He seems to be universally admired.

I've been a big Gomez fan since his electric performances when he burst on the scene under Rodgers.

He seems to have recovered well from successive serious injuries and i expect next season will be another big year of improvement. I think he's versatile enough to play across the back four.

But, TAA is the more intriguing prospect for me. He can be whatever he wants to be. I love his whipped in crosses and his allround ability on the ball - they make him perfect for fullback. Others have said it for longer but i'm coming around to the idea of him playing in the middle.

Agreed - since i saw that idea mooted on here (by gkmacca i think), I have also come around to it in my mind. His vision and technique is excellent. I feel he is getting up to pace with the PL and can hold his own against most opposition he has faced. Yes, there have been occasions of being outplayed but that happens to all young full backs. I'm excited by watching his progress, and also feel safe knowing a local lad won't be tempted away by a big money move.

And Klopp 737Max handled him well - not putting him out against the toughest opposition to get roasted.

Agreed. TAA is like watching the effort, enthusiasm and passion of Flanno in the body of someone with technique and a proper footballing brain. That isn't meant as a sleight on Flanno - as they are traits he really excels in and it is great to see that again in a player. I love watching players come up through the ranks and really start making an impact.

TAA has the ability to do those powerful driven runs straight through teams that I've not really seen since before Gerrard moved back to DM. Can's done it on occasion I suppose, but you can see that this is clearly some TAA has watched a mimicked from the master of this play and his idol, Gerrard. He doesn't have the physique to do them really well at the moment, but the goal at the weekend was an example of him doing it, and when he bulks out and moves into a central position, I see him being really quite deadly. The next two years will be massive for him, and I have to agree Klopp is doing a superb job nurturing him at the moment. I'm really excited to see where he'll be at 21, if he stays injury free and loads on the muscle mass, I can see him starting to massively influence games.

And as for Gomez, he's clearly going to be mentored by VVD and become a defender in his ilk. He's got all the attributes to be a superb defender, what two absolute gems we have in these two.

I actually think he will do very well as a full back in Klopp's system, which requires them to have a lot of the ball in the opposition's half.

Could be why Klopp wanted Milner at left back last season too.

I personally want to see Milner at RB and Robertson at LB and see what happens. Milner will get more assists then Gomez and TAA
