... that Glen Johnson's fantastic, diving challange on Ryan Giggs about 5 minutes before we scored hasn't gotten more recognition here today.

Giggs was about 6 yards out, bearing down on the volley that, had he made clean contact, would surely have given them the lead. Out of nowhere, Glen hurls himself across the shot, head first, careful not to give away a penalty. HUGE moment, boys and girls... Had they scored then, it's a very different game, and maybe a very different world this morning.

One swallow does not a summer make, but for at least one day, one incredibly important day, he answered some of the critics of his defensive abilities.
 
It seems to me that Johnson is on a hiding to nothing with the British media.
If he plays well and makes the challenges then 'Well he is a £17 million International right back' and when he makes the slightest fuck up he gets pounced on.

A major factor in Rafa decision to buy Magic is the attacking option he brings, I would say that Capello likes that about him too.
As you could see yesterday that when he stays back and plays as an out and out full back he is more than capable of putting a steady defensive performance, he had a very good game yesterday and he rarely passed the half way line.
 
Alongside Ramos and Alves he's the best right back in the game.

I mentioned it in the Ratings thread. I just think there's so much praise to go round a few players, like Aurelio and Johnson, are getting a bit lost amongst it all. He was quiet in an attacking sense - though clearly this was a tactical ploy from Benitez - and performed defensively very well. Hardly anything came down their right side, although our domination in the middle also helped this.

On a day when we needed solidity, he provided it. It's a good sign.

Anyways, I don't think there's many RBs outthere who'll do you a better job overall than Ramos. For me he's upthere alongside Alves and Johnson.
 
Alves isn't the best defender either KHL. He was bought, like Magic, for the attacking element to his game.
I don't watch every single match that Ramos plays but I have seen him raped time and time again when faced with good players.
With Real and Spain.
