Summer, keep Gomez as RB cover....

He has made poor mistakes every single time he plays. We can put it down to a lack of game time, but we don't see that from Kostas. He is our 4th choice CB currently and rightly so. We also do not know if his injury problems are behind him.

To me, he and Ox are on a same trajectory, injured alot and is now nowhere near their "peak". They have had enough time to make a comeback but they are closer to being out of the first 20 than challenging for the first 11.

If we get anything close to 40m we should sell.

I am not comparing him to TAA. IF I was compare a former RB to TAA It would be Glen Johnson to TAA. Both good going forward, both not so good defending.
Gomez vs Philips is based on there defensive qualities hence why the way Philips defends, the way in which he puts he body on the line, and the way in which he reads the game "Reminds me of a Young Jamie Carragher"... Not saying he was say good as JC, merely that he plays very much like him.

And just because Gomez played a few good crosses It does not mean he is a better replacement for TAA than Philips would be especially as we have never seen Philips play that role before
You compared Phillips to Carra and suggested Phillips would be a better backup that Gomez. Simple logic / common sense tells us Gomez is far closer to a TAA backup than Phillips. Gomez is fast, he's always been a good crosser and he's defensively stable so absolutely a far better backup for TAA than Phillips - as pretty much everyone else in this thread has said too.

Phillips did great for us, his defining qualities being defensive but to suggest he would be a better RB than Gomez is ... nuts.

I still have hopes for Neco (and Bradley in a couple of seasons) but as an all round backup I'd still rather have Gomez in the squad than Neco.

I don’t get the Djed Spence love in that seems to have gained momentum this year. He looks like a very defensively raw full back with ceiling of a regular for Everton or something to me.

Get that left back from Watford in. He was right footed, pacy and super switched on.

Or Lamptey at Brighton..
Bluebell's posts continually suggest raw/left field unproven players and that in his opinion we should sell on half our squad and buy one of them instead. It's another form of FIFA. One day he'll get one right, law of averages.

And Klopp confirms just what we all knew about Donovan:

“I said it already before, but if one of you thinks still that Trent cannot defend then I’m sorry, you have no idea about football"

"If anybody says to me Trent cannot defend, they should come to me, I'll knock them down"

so you're cruising for a Germanic bruising, my boy.

The one decent spell Carra spent at FB was around the Treble season when he played on the left, not the right, and was expected to do precisely zero overlapping. Our general approach then, including the job Carra was asked to do at fullback, was the polar opposite of what it would be now.

I actually think he may have landed on one with Spence.

This Frenchey has me out of context. I only recommend selling fringe players who aren't going to even make the bench or injury ridden ones. I didn't for example want to sell Wilson but keep him around unless someone paid £20m.
Kieta, Gomez and Ox at the start of the season were all on most people's sell list. I'd still sell all 3 if a decent offer came in. I'd keep Nat over Gomez as 4th choice CB, OX isn't good enough or fit enough. Keita is very good but agan injures has him curtailed for large parts of a season.

Just give up. Klopp doesn't rate Nat and he's not gonna be here next summer.

You seem to be reading something that is not there. I didn't not say he could not defend....What I said was that he was not so good at defending
