Summer, keep Gomez as RB cover....

I'd keep him after that performance on Saturday but it all comes down to the player. He obviously needs more games and right now Matip is in the side on merit and even when he's displaced it's at the expense of big Ibou.

Hate to say it but if a stupid bid comes in and I mean north of £40m reluctantly I'd let him go

It’ll be largely up to him, if he wants to go and play more games at a club unlikely to win anything or whether he’s happy to stay and be a part of one of the top teams in Europe while unlikely to be first choice.

There is the fact that he’s young enough to succeed either Van Dijk or Matip.

Games or glory.

If Klopp stays , otherwise I can see us being fucked up

get someone else. I voted for keeping Philips over Gomez. I believe that he would be better cover both at Right back and CB. The extra money we would get for Gomez will help the investment in new players.

Gomez as played well the other night so people want to keep him, but that was the other night . Not consistant enough
Move him on

It would be ideal if we could keep him. At the moment he is decent back up for both right back and centre back, so if we did sell him we would need to buy two players.

The problem obviously is that I doubt he wants to be back up for either positions. He will want to play regularly.

I'd like to keep him BUT the desire for Gomez is to play more first team football.

Let's not forget we also have
Bradley
Van den Berg

Who can also cover the latter at both CB and RB. So he may well be moved on.

Depends if he wants to retrain as a RWB, if not then i think we should cash in and replace. He’s got the pace and skills to do the role to a decent level but would need many more games to settle.

i wonder if him at RB would see Trent moved to right CM in any game.

As much as Nate has his uses - I don’t think right back is one of them.

Irrespective of what happens with Gomez I think we need right-sided Tskimikas. TAA is so integral that bringing in someone like Gomez (as well as he did the other day) messes with our shit.

I guess the question is whether Neco can and is willing to fulfil that role.

If we can convince neco to be happy with fleeting minutes, I'd be happy

I think Neco is just too skinny, and with Djed Spence who is physically superior is available for £12m, I'd sell Neco

Phillips is an absolute cult hero but him as right back cover?

I like Nat and would be quite happy to keep him as 4th CB if that's how things turn out, but he has not got the pace to play fullback.

He's just 2 years younger than Trent. Might be a problem if he's ambitious. Other teams are looking at him as well.
I'd rather we just save our money and play the Irish kid.

Be foolish to consider selling but if he wanted out I wouldn't let him go for a penny less than £50m. He's a top draw, anywhere across the back 4, defender, International. Need a top quality central defensive squad, at least 4.

I don't Know.... He reminds me much as a young Jamie Carragher. I think he could do a job out there if called upon

Not sure. Whilst I am certain that Phillips would happily play anywhere and give 100%, he is not as good a player as Carragher, and even Carragher was not as good at fullback.

Also, we rely on our fullbacks much more in an attacking sense than we did back then.

And just how do you think a young Carra would do as a TAA backup? Bombing up and down the wing? Exactly. You do my head in at times.

I am not comparing him to TAA. IF I was compare a former RB to TAA It would be Glen Johnson to TAA. Both good going forward, both not so good defending.
Gomez vs Philips is based on there defensive qualities hence why the way Philips defends, the way in which he puts he body on the line, and the way in which he reads the game "Reminds me of a Young Jamie Carragher"... Not saying he was say good as JC, merely that he plays very much like him.

And just because Gomez played a few good crosses It does not mean he is a better replacement for TAA than Philips would be especially as we have never seen Philips play that role before

I don’t get the Djed Spence love in that seems to have gained momentum this year. He looks like a very defensively raw full back with ceiling of a regular for Everton or something to me.

Get that left back from Watford in. He was right footed, pacy and super switched on.

Or Lamptey at Brighton..

I think we should consider whether David Wagner would play Nate at RB…. just behind Adama Traore in our new look right-side back up, seemlessly replicating everything Salah & Trent provide to the team.
Thanks for the laughs LMFAO

It was a totally different style of football back then and we played with a very defensive minded manager at the time and Carragher was an ok full back. He was a much better centre back. I don't mean to be harsh but I don't see how anybody watches Nat Phillips play and thinks he would be a good full back.

and even then i remember the crowds grumbling with carraghers approach to playing fullback, imagine the response now
