Suarez

He could be our "cantona" the catlyst to get us over the line. What a siging he looks.

His workrate impressed me so much last night. My mate and I were saying that torres would have given up on chasing the ball loads of times and huffed about hands on hips.

Suarez for less than half the price of Torres = business of the century

Yeah, was going to mention Hangeland too. He has been fantastic for a few seasons yet will have palpitations about tonight for months to come (still take him though). Carra said a few weeks ago how Suarez tortures the shit out of our defenders in practice games, he is just so unpredictable, so I'd not be too hard on the big defender. His movement last night, and his control in tight spaces (something everyone in the team has improved upon, I might add), was simply breathtaking at times.

Suarez does need to get the sightings on those pistols looked at though, his shooting has generally been a bit haywire since he came (and I'd heard before he arrived that he has hot and cold streaks in terms of his shooting). If he was shooting straighter, he'd have as many goals as assists. Not complaining like, he is fucking, fucking, fucking brilliant.

Think with suarez he came with a goalscoring reputation (justifiably) so i think he's trying too hard to recapture his platinum touch

Merson is a fucking joke.

"Comments from alcoholic drug abusers are not really gonna upset me and who is Paul Merson to judge players, he was average at the best of times," Johnson wrote. "The only reason he's on that show is coz he gambled all his money away. The clown!"

Glen Johnson

I thought Merson was right about Johnson, Modo.

He's definitely improved though.
[/quote]

Not arguing that, only agreeing with Johnson that he is a clown.

It annoys me when Merson tries to have a pop at Phil Thompson.

Phil Thompson, a well spoken (albeit biased) European Cup winning captain, and Paul Merson....

Are my eyes deceiving me?

Cause it looks like he's running forwards when he's actually running backwards.

He’s exceptional. Pace, goals, remarkable skill in tight spaces and an infectious enthusiasm for football that’s clearly rubbing off on his teammates. He reminds me a little of Robbie Fowler at his absolute peak and I can’t pay him a higher compliment than that.

Steven Gerrard described Luis Suarez as a 'midfielder's dream' after watching the Uruguayan turn in a sensational performance in Liverpool's 5-2 demolition of Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Suarez netted the Reds' fifth goal on a night to remember in west London, to add to Maxi Rodriguez's hat-trick and a Dirk Kuyt strike.

Speaking on television after the game, Gerrard, who is continuing his recuperation from a groin operation, chatted openly and honestly about a variety of subjects including Suarez, next season, Kenny Dalglish and also Manchester United closing in on the league title.

Here's what the Liverpool captain had to say...

On Luis Suarez's man-of-the-match performance against Fulham...

It goes to show how good Luis Suarez was. Usually, if you score a hat-trick, you deserve to win man of the match. But Luis Suarez's movement, touches, awareness, vision and the way he took his goal was sensational. He's a midfielder's dream. As soon as you look up, he's making great movement and gives you an option all the time. What impresses me even more about him is when he hasn't got the ball - his tenacity to win it back and attitude. In the 92nd minute, he was trying to get his second goal and still closing defenders down. He was just an absolute joy to watch.

On comparisons between Luis Suarez and Carlos Tevez...

I think it's natural he's going to be compared to Tevez because of the way he's built, his shape and the way he plays. But from what I've seen so far, and I'm going to be slightly biased because he's one of my teammates and one of our players, I think he could go on to be better. I can't wait (to play with Suarez next season). I am looking forward to next season already. Hopefully we can finish this season with another two wins, get a good pre-season under our belts and have a good crack at it next year.

On Dirk Kuyt's incredible form...

He's very good. He pops up with important goals, he's got the never-say-die attitude and never gives up from start to finish. He's in a very good vein form at the moment, scoring important goals. He's the Duracell bunny, isn't he? He just keeps going and going, never gives up, has a fantastic attitude, works hard every day in training and if you're a young kid and you look at Dirk, he's the type of role model you want - somebody who gives everything they've got.

On Maxi Rodriguez...

He's another player in superb form - that's two hat-tricks in three games. There are a lot of Liverpool players on top form at the moment.

On the difference Kenny Dalglish has made since returning...

I think Kenny has brought everyone together. He's approached all of the players, and he's drilling belief and confidence into them. Training has changed with Steve Clarke with the tempo, and the lads are enjoying going into training. You can see the difference out on the pitch - they're basically taking their training performances out there. If you're a footballer going into work smiling and enjoying it, you usually see results improving - and that's exactly what has happened.

On the attacking options Liverpool now have available...

Now the midfielders have got options. If big Andy Carroll is playing, you've got height and someone who it will stick with. If you've got Dirk, he will be everywhere, running into the channels, holding it up and running in behind. You've also got Suarez's class. The good thing about this team and squad now is there are options up front - good options.

On losing the 'two-man team' tag...

You only have to look at the performance (against Fulham) to realise we're not a one-man or two-man team. There were a lot of positive performances out there. If we can add a bit of strength to the squad in the summer and if the players can maintain that form, and there is still a lot of hard work to do, that's when we will push the teams above us a lot more closely.

On whether Liverpool can still make the top four...

It depends on the result (between Manchester City and Tottenham tonight). If Manchester City win, the race for fourth is all over, but if Tottenham can beat them it gives us a little bit more of a chance. We won't give up on it until it's impossible. The important thing for us is to worry about our two games and take six points from the last two.

On Manchester United closing in on league title No.19...

It's hurtful from our point of view because we held the record for so long, but you've got to give credit where it's due, they've overtaken us for the time being. The good thing is we are on our way back up and we won't give up the fight to try and overtake them again - don't worry about that. That is the motivation - to know your bitter rivals have overtaken you on league titles. We can still boast about the European Cups, of course, but we do need to amend the 19-18 and myself and everyone else will be doing everything we can to try and do that.

Good to hear from Stevie. He soooo deserves to win the league with Liverpool.

He isn't /wasn't first in the queue. Off the top of my head......

Fowler

Carra

Sami

all deserve(d) it and I'd say more so.

I'm sure he has genuine hope for next season.

Jamie Carragher is convinced Luis Suarez is a Liverpool legend-in-the-making after he produced another mesmeric display in the 5-2 triumph over Fulham.

The Uruguayan tormented the Cottagers's rearguard throughout a one-sided encounter in the Capital, leading the Reds stalwart to wax lyrical about our new No.7.

"If he [Suarez] keeps playing like that I think he'll be a bigger legend than I'll ever be," said Carra.

"He looks a really top player, he plays for the team. It shows he's adaptable and versatile, he can do different jobs for the teams."

He added: "We've been flying since Christmas and that's credit to everyone involved.

"The manager's come in and made a big difference, whatever he's done has worked.

"Players coming in have made a huge difference as well, Suarez is superb.

"I hope I'm not getting too carried away here but I think the performances that he's showed have proved he's going to be a real player for Liverpool, not just between now and the end of season but for years to come."

Manchester United's win over Chelsea means they are on the verge of surpassing Liverpool's record of 18 league titles.

Carragher acknowledges the achievement but remains determined to rectify the situation next season.

He added: "If we want that record back or we want to win leagues ourselves we can't keep relying on other teams to stop Man United doing it.

"They're a great team and great club and you have to have respect for them.

"The only way of us getting back on top is winning titles not relying on others."

Don't see how you could possibly say that after the literally countless games Stevie's won for us on his own in the league, not to mention his goals and performances in 2004/5 that got us number 5.
Gerrard deserves it more than any other player.

Agreed.

Haha, that's my quote of the season from Merson:

On the eve of the Utd clash: 'If you ask Brown and smalling, I think they are going to love to play against Suarez...'

Sure they are Paul, sure they are.

Disagree totally.

He may've flirted with leaving but in this case it's irrelevant.

On the pitch, Gerrard has dragged us kicking and screaming through so many big matches and seasons, over all; nobody in the past 10 years of this club deserves to win a title more so than gerrard.

speaking of gerrard, is it only me thinking that suarez can be our long-term replacement? not in his position, granted, but in that something extra he gives to the team, that magical match-winning quality? because when i think about gerrard starting to decrease in influence over the next few years it's not his presence in midfield or creativity in attack i worry about missing - that can be replaced - it's that superhuman 'force' he brings to the team and, well, suarez seems to have it in spades. i really think he's captain material: i loved the way suarez's first thought after scoring was to pick out shelvey and thank him for the pass, he's such an inpirational character.

Doubt it. If he has two or three good seasons for us he'll be looking for a move to Barca or Real or someone.

he deffo has that spark that other players look for and respond too. He also has that ability to instill fear in opposing teams due to his sublime skills and vision....

Captain - why not...lead by example.

It's sad that the Torres deal has done this to us, but we need to focus on what they do while they're here...if we just focus on the fact that they might leave in 2 years we'll just depress ourselves.

Unless we assume that Suarez goes for a massively inflated price and we replace him with someone equally amazing at a fraction of the cost, i'd be quite happy with running with that system ad infinitum - buy - rinse - sell for $$$$$ - laugh all the way to the bank
