Ajax striker Luis Suárez faces seven-match ban for biting opponent• Dutch Football Federation propose lengthy ban for striker
• Incident involved PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal

guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 24 November 2010 13.36 GMT Article historyThe Dutch Football Federation has proposed a seven-match ban for Ajax striker Luis Suárez for biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal.

Ajax fined Suárez on Monday and banned him for two matches, and will now decide whether to appeal against the proposed further ban. If the club does not react, the case will be discussed at a disciplinary hearing on Thursday.

The federation accused Suárez of "a violent act – biting an opponent."

The referee did not see the incident in injury time of Saturday's 0-0 draw and Suárez was not punished. After the incident, Bakkal pulled down his shirt to show a red mark on his collarbone.

The incident has drawn comparisons to boxer Mike Tyson biting off part of Evander Holyfield's right ear in a 1997 bout, while Dutch daily newspaper De Telegraaf branded Suarez the "Cannibal of Ajax."

The federation said it had taken the Uruguay striker's previous conduct into account in reaching its proposed punishment. Suárez still had a suspended one-match ban on his record after a red card in the season-opening Johan Cruyff Bowl match in July.

Suárez was one of the stars of this year's World Cup, scoring three goals for Uruguay. But his scoring prowess was overshadowed by his deliberate handball on the line in the dying seconds of the quarterfinal against Ghana. He prevented a goal and Asamoah Gyan missed the resulting penalty. Uruguay then went through in a shoot-out.

Luis Suarez MUERDE A Otman Bakkal

He's mental.

For all his footballing qualities I don't think we should splash the cash on him anymore. He's gone from bad to worse with Ajax of late as well.

I'd still sign him in a heartbeat.

He has everything, and works his butt off. He needs a move.

You could use your Torres money to sign him.

True.

Can you ever see Torres biting anyone? Exactly: poor value for money!

What a prick.

Kahn did something similar a few years ago. He wanted to bite an opponent in the face.

Ha, that was the funniest bit. Don't think he's too bright, bless him.

We have apperantly been several times in Amsterdam on scouting trips. I'm not to sure on Suarez tbh, he's been awful this season.

EDIT: I just checked Wiki, and he has still scored 11 goals in 19 games this season. 7 in 11 league games. Hmm..

A 7 game ban for biting an opponent, thats a joke, he should have gotten a far longer ban than that I mean there is very little else you could do that ranks below biting a fellow player, I would have thought minimum 3 months

On another note I wouldnt want him anywhere near Liverpool hes a complete prick, his actions were the low point of the world cup for me and now hes gone and topped that, this guys is a disaster waiting to happen
