Uruguay have named Napoli forward Edinson Cavani in their provisional 32-man squad for the London Olympics.

Cavani, who has scored 64 goals for the Vesuviani in the past two seasons, has been called up by Oscar Tabarez to his initial squad for the 2012 games that will be held in the English capital this August.

Should Cavani make the July 8 cut to the final 18 as one of the three allocated overage players, it will be the third consecutive summer that he has seen national team involvement, following the 2010 World Cup and the 2011 Copa America.

Uruguay have been drawn against Great Britain, Senegal and United Arab Emirates in Group A of the football at London 2012. The tournament will run from July 26 to August 11.

Napoli’s Supercoppa Italiana clash with Juventus in China is scheduled for August 11, whilst the Serie A season kicks off two weeks after that.

Luis Suarez, Egidio Arevalo Rios and Fernando Muslera are the other three overage players also in contention for Tabarez’ final squad, but Inter striker Diego Forlan misses out.

He pulls out?
We'll force him out. He doesn't have choice in the matter.
That said, it's not good having a pissed off Suarez around.

I'm happy for him to go. Get his goalscoring touch back in some kind of competitive games before the season starts

Yeah, I don't mind either. We can rest him a bit during our pre-season and give Benzema time to settle into the side.

Uruguay and Brazil will do well. I'm sure Spain have plenty of decent back up players too.

Shame there's nothing at Anfield.

After the copa America last summer it will 2 summers of competitive football.

Can't see that will be a good thing for us, he will be knackered come December and janaury

Suarez will be missing for the US tour and the start of the season after being picked to play for Uruguay at the Olympics. Coates has been chosen too.

So that's Suarez, Bellamy and Coates missing

Still cannot see why some of our fans are happy that are best player by a country mile maybe for our games

Has Cavani been picked?

Im not happy about it at all. Seems like three of our squad wont be available for the start of the season which includes friendlies, europa league and the premiership. Fuck that!

Suarez along with Cavani and a player who's based in Uruguay will be their overage picks.
