Liverpool's Luis Suarez has been suspended for one match, fined £20,000 and warned as to his future conduct after admitting a Football Association charge of improper conduct.

The 24-year-old striker will miss Friday's Premier League game against Newcastle United as a result.

Suarez was charged for an abusive hand gesture following the 1-0 defeat at Fulham on 5 December.

He raised the middle finger of his left hand as he walked off the pitch.

More to follow.

Strangely enough, I'm not fussed by the Suarez ban. He's our best player but at the same time I feel that his automatic inclusion may be costing us goals. Maybe the break will be good for him and for our other players. Give maxi the ball and let him run with it.

yep, thinkin the same thing, i think gerrard can get carrol a few goals, and i think suarez would do some good with time off

Yeah i think this one match band may not be a bad thing (He needs a rest before we smash city all over the shop like a bad whore on ket)

That's a quarter of the season he's missing for us now - all of his own doing. I hope he comes back with his head slightly more screwed on.

In the mean time we'll need Gerrard to find the net pretty damn quickly.

Merry xmas LFC love from the FA..

btw Andy Carroll WILL now score in his next game it's destiny.. :-\

When Suarez signed was he just finished a long ban in Holland?

Hopefully when he does come back he'll be fresh and start scoring again.

See I would now complain about Meireles from when he gave the finger after scoring a goal for us. Lucas was right there so as he isn't doing much these days he can make a witness statement about it. As we can see with the Evra thing, you are totally allowed to have a "delayed reaction" when it comes to being offended. I await another one match ban.

Merry Xmas Raul.

no problem with this - it's legitimate.

this is true - i hope the FA start doing this consistently moving forward as it's the right punishment.

It was coming and you can say that its fair. But since the FA are so horribly inconsistent with who and what they punish players for its still shite.

Bellamy and Carroll upfront vs Newcastle then

Perhaps not such a bad thing. I'd imagine one, if not both, would love to get a goal against their old club.

Luis Suarez 5
M Rodriguez 2
Andy Carrol 2
Martin Skrtel 2
Charlie Adam 2
Jordy Henderson 1
Steve Gerrard 1
Glen Johnno 1

After seeing that table I can't help but feel that, despite his confidence and fitness levels, had he been given the same amount of game time Carroll would have the same tally or more.

I think it may well be dawning on Luis that he must curb his natural passion and exuberance if he is to be acceptable to the English press and fans sensibilities. Either that or ply his trade elsewhere.

It's not about the 'english press' jexy, he has been in trouble in holland also.

Also once re not giving a fuck is that the Suarez ban for a game or the table of our goal scorers? Or maybe even both?

He bit a player's ear and got banned for 8 games (I don't think anyone can argue that - only Mike Tyson should be able to do that legally). Anything else I've missed?

I hope you're right, but there'll be a reason why he hasn't had as much game time. Don't get me wrong, I think it's still previous to be writing Carroll off, but he's got to earn his chance, the same as every other player.

So people seriously think Suarez and Carroll are comparable as far as footballing ability is concerned?
I think such a line of thoughts is one of the main reasons why England always go to major competitions as favourites (in their own views) and end up, well we all know where, while Uruguay arrived in S. Africa as a nobody team and ended where they did (as well and then went on to win the Copa America).
I'm yet to see Andy Carroll winning balls, staying on his feet, going past people and score goals (and I still haven't lost all hope he'll become good for us), but oh well.

Jimmy - I don't think Fallon was saying he sees Suarez and Carroll as having comparable footballing ability. What I think he was referring to was that the one weakness Suarez does seem to have is finishing, which isn't up to the standard of everything else he does, so there's a chance that Carroll could score more from the same number of games despite being (as he certainly is) the more limited footballer of the two.

Asbo - won't happen. Wolves aren't a competitor for ManUre so the FA won't get any thanks from Ferguson for shafting them.
