Sturridge

Ok, if you keep him and he does ok/good, he leaves for free next summer? You have to do something with him this summer, new contract or sell him.
Balls. If he has a great season and they're queuing up to give him a free contract then it means he has had a boss season for us. If he doesn't it matters not. This isn't some kid whose value is soaring. If we need him, it isn't to make money on him. If we like the look of him after preseason we keep him. We think about offering him a new contract in January if he is miraculously having a swan song.

I don't hold out much hope of him being much use, but it doesn't necessarily follow we should sell him for £10m or whatever.

I'd rather sell Origi for double that and take a chance on Sturridge.

Origi and ings, I reckon each could get double what sturridge would fetch.

Seeing as it will be impossible to sign a player equal or better than Sturridge just to warm the bench for Bobby, keeping him will be best. My hope is that he now understands his body truly is fucked and that having a reduced but important role as a super sub at a top club like Liverpool might be his best career option.

What we may or may not get as a transfer fee surely isn't the only issue though.

If we were eying up a potential backup striker then I'm pretty sure his rather large wage being off the books would free up enough to pay that backup striker's wage.

Is there any point in debating the role of someone who played under two hours of league football this year because of injury?

He's the guy I'd want in any one on one with a goalkeeper, he seems like a decent person too but a frequently injured backup is pointless.

It'd be nice to be wrong of course

Like the weird uncle giving off bad Juju at a christening.

Needs to be fired in to The Lying Rag so everybody else can relax and let the good times start.

Excuse me but what is a 'Bad Juju'? 😵 Explain yourself..... Quickly....

I guess for me it just comes down to whether I'd rather gamble on Sturridge staying fit or Ings or Origi becoming half decent.

I prefer Sturridge's chances.

And maybe keep Solanke as backup backup.

I wouldn't be signing anyone cos we need to keep a way clear for Brewster.

Even if hes fit, which lets face it he wont be, he cant replace Bobby in our attacking line up. Hes a completely different player. Hes never shown anything like the workrate or selflessness required to make himself a viable alternative to Firmino in that central role, even at his best. I just dont see how he possibly fits into Klopps system. Its like replacing Salah with Lallana in the CL final.

Hes more talented than Ings or Origi by some distance. But both of them are better suited to playing for Klopp.

If he puts in any work rate at all, then you might as well use a golf club to injure him yourself. To have any hope of him staying fit we should be limiting his physical movements to the bare minimum.

What he has got in the locker though is that little bit of ability to be a playmaker, bring him on late, he'll find openings and will grab the occasional goal.

He's worked hard and looked good, making clever darting runs behind the back line. The pace thing is negligible, because his movement and intelligence is still there. Solanke and Origi haven't turned up this Summer, he has.

And as said, we have enough grafters around him, so there are some games where we can get away with. We do need to buy another though. Sell Origi and loan out Solanke.

I'd rather keep Studge and Ings. At least Ings looks like he's got some sort of footballing brain. Solanke and Origi always look like such blunt instruments. That's fine if they are actually good goalscorers, but they are just lumps. Think Brewster will get a go on the bench once he's fit.

Hmm, however you wish to dress it up, we have - by some distance - the worst striking options of any team in the Top 6. If Firmino doesn't play, we look embarrassingly light, and I don't understand why it hasn't been addressed at all.

Agreed. It would be great to sign a Defoe-type back up striker. Proven goalscoring record, experienced and happy to be a back up. Must be some options around.

I've been a big fan of Okazaki and think he'd suit Klopp's style...

Defo in a category of 1 though

It's a stud. You shouldn't have a problem with that, you've got two grown men groping eachother in your avatar.

Maybe he'll have a swansong. Maybe this is his year. Not going to happen, is it? There's always the suspicion that he's incapable of playing through a niggle. Salah was clearly carrying a variey of niggles by the end of last season, but his ambition, both for Liverpool and his personal ambition to get the Golden Boot meant he wanted to play every minute he could. Studge just won't or can't do that. Which is a right shame. If he had some of that he'd have a song.

I hope he stays. He’s still a quality finisher and gives us the option to change a game if the regular front three aren’t clicking. I also doubt very much that he’s interested in regular starts now so fitness permitting (I know!) I think he’d be ideal for the bench and the occasional cup game.
