I'm actually really happy with what I've seen of Sturridge over the last two games, he's shown a little more of him old self with some great, fast runs and some clever play, but he's also shown that he's starting to fit into Klopps system with hard work and unselfish play. If he's only making it to 60mins in the short term so what, the guy is supremely talented and its only a matter of time until he starts scoring again, and when he does, he'll be a truly terrifying player perfect for Klopps system.

Agree. The question mark remains about his fitness. But I don't think there's any doubt about his aptitude to play in the fluid and flexible pattern that Klopp favours. At the very peak of Rodgers' best season, Sturridge was all over the place, dropping deep, going wide, interchanging with Suarez up top. But he is more reactive than active in that sense: he won't be the one who, like Firmino, will serve as the role model for such a system. He'll respond to it when he sees it's blossoming. He's the kind of striker who'll tend to stay in his own little world until some external stimulus draws him into the team as a whole. So if the system continues to thrive now, I think we'll see him becoming more and more integrated within it.

Right. He got about 2 minutes against Spurs and under an hour at Chelsea, so it's closer to 2 1/2 games. He was shite at Burnley (as was everyone), excellent against Leicester and fairly tidy against Chelsea before fading. It's Sturridge, the goals will come.

I would say DB was joking around here.

I think he has taken a huge step forward after the Burnley game. Hopefully he can keep fit, but I am far from sure about it. Last few years I actually stopped counting on him ever play for us.

Hahaha. Your dislike of our only top class striker is as bemusing as your adoration for our rivals managers.
It was tongue in cheek although. His attitude has stunk for a long time.

There aren't any real managers to hate now with Fergie gone.

Conte is new
Guardiola is new and class
Jose I've always liked and wish he had taken us over after Porto
Wenger is laughable
Koelman is hard to dislike and Everton hadn't been anywhere near a top side in years
Mauricio is also incredibly likeable.

Hopefully they will but his biggest asset has always been his goals to games ratio so he needs to start banging them in

I can understand respecting his accomplishments, but he incredibly easy to hate. He can be disrespectful to other managers, bullies referees, throws his own players under the bus, his teams play bad football etc. There is loads to not like.

You aren't trying hard enough.

Guardiola? Fucking Mourinho?

And any manager of Everton is incredibly easy to immediately despise.

How can anyone not hate Mourinho? His own parents probably acknowledge that he's a bit of a dong.

Wonder how high up the list Sturridge would've been had he not had his injury woes (12 in 31 app since 14/15).

I like the new Sturridge, he's yet to score, but he finally looks like he fits into this Klopp team, fair play to him for putting the effort into adapt to Klopps game, its a massive departure from his usual game.

This is no slight on Lallana, but I think bringing Sturridge on change the game yesterday, Swansea had dominated until that point, when he came on we started to claw the game back.

Really? I didn't think it made a difference at all at the time. As far as I could tell we didn't start on the comeback trail till we came out for the second half.

It was stark for me, we actually started getting the ball forward, Swansea still threatened, but we actually got back into the match at that point, in my eyes anyway.

He seemed to throw his toys out of the pram a little late on in the game I thought, and could've worked harder pressing their back line

Isn't his massive contract up at the end of next season? He'll want a payrise in the summer to sign a new one if it is, and a massive signing on fee. I presume that the club will offload him this summer unless he has a miraculous upturn in form and injury resistance. It's a shame as he's a great striker when he's rarely not injured. Wonder whether he fits Klopp's style over a prolonged period of time either, especially with how fragile he is, and he's not always grafting.

You'd have to assume he'd be right up there with the likes of Costa et al, as he's a brilliant finisher. Nice to have at least one player on that list.

Can you hear that? Silence. That's great, innit. He's not being talked about. The body language con-artists have looked elsewhere, the hacks have moved on, the tittle-tattle has stopped. That's good work by Klopp, and Studge. Now he can get his head down and work.

The worry for me is that sometimes he doesn't seem to work as hard and run as much as perhaps Klopp would like, not through any laziness, or intransigence, but because he actually can't.

His recent substitution when Klopp identified that and stated as much, was a concern.

He seems fitter and less likely to break down now - he's been available in most games so far this season - but maybe his 100% isn't at the same level as it was three years ago. If so...that's a massive problem for him and us; lone strikers have to be very mobile and always making runs and sprints to create space.

Just being a good finisher isn't really enough, especially in a Klopp team.

This the key.

I'm not sure that Studge has quite the stature he once had under BR.

He's no longer the standout player at the club and may have to settle for a change of role as dictated by Klopp.

He needs a solid, no nonsense team player attitude for the season to be in a strong position to negotiate another bumper contract.

Yeah, I did wonder if the ambling around and not closing down was more to do with saving himself than can't-be-arsed.

Either is slightly concerning

I hope he is/we are progressing with his treatment. Not so long ago he could barely make an appearance without ending up with a recurrent problem. It's taken time and perhaps using him fleetingly has been the best for both parties - it's given us the opportunity to ease him in and to not rush him, while simultaneously adjusting him to Klopp's playing style.

I don't think the rumour mill will go away though, while we're handling him in this way there will always be frustrations from the player himself, rumblings in the press about him being unsettled. There will always be a story while he's not in the team regularly, which he isn't. He only played at the weekend due to the early injury to Lallana, otherwise it would have been a relatively short sub appearance before a 2 week lay off, ahead of a massive game against United which you have to wager he'd be unlikely to start (assuming there are no major injury concerns to Firmino etc).

It's easy to assume that we're handling him the right way, I hope we are, but it's all seemed a bit convenient for Klopp too, because he seems a far removed from being a typical Klopp player. It's debatable whether he has the stamina/legs for it, but we've seen similar progression with Lallana and now Henderson, which gives us some hope that all of this will pay off. He's reaching a crucial stage of his career now though, he has to stay fit and he has to keep improving his fitness levels and his willingness to work hard, to justify his importance to us and regular inclusion in the team. I'm a huge Sturridge fan, but he has to get back to somewhere near his best this season.

I think the problem we have now is sturridge trying his damndest to adjust to this system, & pretty much succeeding when he plays, but not playing his natural game & not having time to learn how to get the goals flowing in this system.

I don't think that will happen unless he gets a few games in he trot, & I don't think that will happen.

Berahino anyone?
Contract up next summer. Tribunal would have to set the fee.

Did he leave Aidy Ward that time?
Last I heard.
Strange reason though. Press saying that it was because of the Sterling saga, which is weird because isn't that what Berahino wants/wanted?

Ward whored Berahino around and even sat him in the stands at a United game to stir it up with WBA. WBA stood firm and refused to sell to anyone. Berahino parted ways with Ward to save face in an effort to repair his rep. Presume he didn't want to be boo'd every week and didn't want to be seen as a troublemaker??

Well that makes sense. But he damn well played the same game Sterling did.

Fair play to Studge. He was immense against Leceister and it was probably one of his best games despite not scoring. His movement and graft was a joy to watch. If he continues that way, he'll get lots of game time and the goals will come. His a natural and he can get even better.
