Straight choice

It's a question of what is the greater good for the club.
In this case it is a balance between retaining a top four place this year and continue with the same old Rafa mistakes for the next. On the other hand, drop out, and take on a manager who I at least would have more faith in and who could push us to a better place, and who is also charismatic enough to keep and attract players.
In the longer term I would see us being in a better position to challenge with Mourinho

I remember during Houlliers last season people were asking similar questions. I would never want Liverpool to lose a game for any reason, even keep a manager in job who i despise. Nobody is bigger than the club.

Is the right answer.

Cant believe it took so long to get it to it.

Are you saying you despise Rafa though?

On this topic (in bold), if it was a case of a single game and if we win Utd are champions but if we lose they aren't, what would you then choose?
[/quote]

Blackburn springs to mind.

I stood on the Kop & cheered us on regardless, & would again.

It all turned out ok anyway. Karma.

I remember Jamie Redknapp talking about that game. He said that it was a strange atmosphere until we went 1-0 down, and then it was clear that our fans wanted us to win.

Theres no evidenvce to suggest that Mourinho would do any better. He has no record of punching above his weight which our Manager would have to do. Also tactically he is found wanting. He's far better suited to Man City.

Followed by another straight choice :

1. Take a piss whilst swimming in the Amazon and let the candiru fish swim up your dick where it proceeds to gorge itself on blood and flesh from the inside.

OR

2. To wear a crotchless wetsuit in another Amazon estuary filled with leeches AND/OR piranha

;D

Otherwise known as Hobsons choice Avvy! And I agree to a point.

That's about right. Before the game a few scattered fans were cheering Blackburn on half jokingly, & loads saying 'Fuck it we'll lose' & you kinda thought yeah, then realised watching us it wasnt possible to want that.

When they scored even the few who wanted a Blackburn win realised they couldnt possibly stand there & wish defeat on their own team & started getting behind the team.

And you know what, no matter what Utd would've done, that was the right thing to do, & something no other club would have done, & the one remaining thing that sets us apart from other clubs is encapsulated by that.

No record of punching above his weight?!

So you had money on Porto to win the Champions League in 2004 then I take it?

Yes, I remember a Manc telling me that we were going to lose deliberately to Blackburn just so they'd lose the title race.

I told him that we were going to beat them; because we didnt throw away League games.

He scoffed; but the look on his face when I was proven right AND they lost to the Hammers was priceless.

I can't see that any Manager is going to do significantly better in the long term than Benitez with the current level of resources.

It is now, and has been for some time; that finances are directly related to performance hence Spurs, Villa and, of course, Citeh being in the ascendancy.

We need better financial backing rather than a different coach. Say what you will, Benitez has had significant success given he's competing with richer clubs.

Mourinho is an excellent Manager and may give us a short term boost but long term I'm sure he'd struggle with fewer resources.

and what evidence do we have, exactly, to suggest that Rafa punches above his weight in the last five years?

A recent statistical analysis in "The Times" which showed that the results he's obtained per pound spent on player's wages are better than both Wenger's and Ginsoak's. There are certainly times when he doesn't help himself, but the problems aren't by any means all down to him.

Which is the crux of the matter. Some people think despite all our limitations, we should still win the title and Mourhino will do better.

There's no guarantees with Mourinho.

He may buy crap players, and be unable to coax and motivate our players to win games, and may lament about the lack of funds available.

I won't cheer for us to do poorly, regardless of "possible" positive outcomes in the future. I rate Jose, no secret, but wouldn't want us to tank the season. I'll be crushed if we don't qualify for the Champions League, pleased if Jose is the next manager (regardless of when), and just look forward to seeing us soldier on.
