The Parkhead boss was in Spain today after watching his side lose out to Old Firm rivals Rangers in the championship race over the weekend.

But it's believed he confirmed his decision from over there after a four year spell in Glasgow.

Strachan won the title on three occasions and reached the last 16 of the Champions League twice, however, it's thought he was always planning to walk away this summer.

An insider revealed: "Gordon was going regardless on whether or not Celtic won the title. He wanted a break from life in Glasgow before looking at his options."

Surely he won't go to Sunderland? That place is a lunatic asylum.

Personally I think he would be great for Newcastle. He could build a new team, help set up a proper academy and gut the dodgy boot room staff. He is the sort of manager they will need if they are to rebuild.

I remember him saying, before he took the job, that he'd been working on writing a sitcom. I'd love to see that. I bet it has a really bad tempered drunk next door.

And the man taking over at Celtic:

Oh, that's good news. Strachan's news conferences are always good fun.

Seconded.

He's as entertaining a manager as there's been in some time.

Having said that I do agree that Newcastle would be his perfect destination. He could really do something there and they'll be so devastated that they may just give him complete freedom to do it.

Actually, the more I think about it the more I hope that doesn't happen. They've long been an utter shambles hiding what we can all see was real potential. I think Strachan is a very good manager and could end up doing a Shanks with them - though never on the same scale obviously.

"That is all I have to say on the matter."

A word of warning:

Thos 'hilarious' news conferences are a thing of the past. One of the (multitude of) reasons why he lost the support of the fans at Celtic was his unwillingness to get involved in pre or post match discussions. He either didn't bother to turn up, or gave away abolsutely nothing when he did.

It was.

Am I right in thinking that he was sick and tired of the whole sectarian thing too? I'm sure I read that somewhere.

Also, saw on the news last night that some lovely Rangers "fans" in Coleraine kicked a Celtic fan to death over the result of the SPL title. Dead man is a father of 4 who devotes his time to breaking down sectarian divisions in the youth community and was married to a protestant.

He won three league titles in four years and was still hated by Celtic's 'supporters'. It's not difficult to see why he'd want to leave, really.
