Interesting coincidence or destiny...

The amount of matches I have seen from Rangers give some insight into Gerrard's style of play. He does not mind being pragmatic time and again as needed. He can attack and play crazy football if needed like Klopp does but sometimes like yesterday he can completely go into Mourinho/Benitez mode. My assumption is based on some highlights and few games from Europa and big matches in Scottish league.

I am curious to know what others think about it.

If that is how he likes to setup then to be honest I would not except anything different from him. This is about right because he is adapting his team to the opposition, which already shows that he is not stubborn to stick to a single style.

Yeah, I would agree with that based on what I have (mostly) read/ (than) seen - and it's an acknowledged improvement from the previous season by both the fans and the press. Other than learning from experience, I think the fact that he had an improved squad and more options definitely helped and gave him the confidence to make the necessary tweaks/changes.

This season, the improvement in younger players like Aribo, Hagi (or even 24 yr old Kent) is evident and ever since 19 yr old Patterson impressed after coming on at HT vs. Royal Antwerp FC, Gerrard has handed him 3 consecutive starts (at RB, as star player & captain Tavernier has been out since mid Feb). Nurturing talent takes time, which is why I'm supportive of him staying a couple of seasons to show/develope this side of his managerial skill.

On a side note, Sheff Utd job looks like it will be available. Personally, I think that's a suitable job prospect for him (although I doubt he will be on the move).

[article]Rivaldo believes Steven Gerrard would take Ianis Hagi with him to Liverpool, should he ever leave Rangers for his former club. The former Reds captain secured legendary status in Glasgow by guiding the 'Gers to their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years last weekend.

Now he is targeting an unbeaten league campaign as well as Europa League glory as he bids to make Rangers the kings of Scottish football for a sustained spell once again.

His impressive record at Ibrox has only strengthened his case for landing the Liverpool job, should Jurgen Klopp depart his position at Anfield.

Gerrard is planning for the future at Rangers but in the view of Rivaldo, there would be no surprises if he was to take one of his most-prized assets with him to Liverpool, should he ever take over the reins on Merseyside.

The Brazilian said: "I am sure Gerrard will go to Liverpool one day and maybe Ianis Hagi could make the step with him and follow him to Anfield."

Rivaldo urged Hagi, who played with his son in Romania, to quit Rangers last December when he was on the fringes of the starting XI.

But since then the 22-year-old, who joined permanently from Genk in 2020, has become a mainstay in Gerrard's blue juggernaut.

Rivaldo's son, Rivaldinho, played with Hagi for Viitorul Constanta - owned by the legendary Gheorghe Hagi (son of Ianis) - before his move to Belgium in 2019.

Speaking last summer, Rivaldinho backed his old friend to make a huge impact under Gerrard as he praised his star quality in attack.

"I don’t know what happened in Belgium, he was also in a good club, but they didn’t give him time and confidence," the 25-year-old said.

"He is young and talented, and Steven Gerrard gave him what he didn’t have at his previous club. If you give him confidence, he makes the difference in the pitch.

"He told me that the fans are amazing. They make a fantastic atmosphere every game. He is very happy at Rangers, and I’m sure he will do great (in) the next season. He's the player with the most quality I’ve ever played with."

Still unbeaten in all comps. Kinda mad. Thought they'd get beat tonight as @Pesam knows his shit

Sorry Woland, I hope you didn't lose money on it. I've got to admit Rangers surprised me last night. I haven't seen them play this season but I know the strengths/weaknesses of all their players (at least I thought I did).

Slavia have been superb for the last 2 seasons and in Europe have gained draws or wins against teams such as Barcelona, Nice, Inter, Leicester, Sevilla etc. They are a decent footballing team but their main strengths are; fitness levels, consistency and resilience (they never know when they're beaten).

What surprised me with Rangers was that they matched Slavia in fitness and resilience. Gerrard has done an amazing job with those players. Kemar Roofe always looked decent but never looked like he took his fitness seriously (he had a paunch and lacked energy), I had to a double-take when he came on as sub - he finally looks like an athlete. Goldson was always about potential but lacked concentration and awareness - but last night he looked great. The whole team were energised (probably on the same steroids as us) and looked as if they expected to win.

I still think Slavia might edge the tie but after that first game a Rangers win would be no surprise.

And just to highlight Rangers' improvement and how good that result last night was; Slavia are 11 points clear of 2nd place Sparta - Sparta beat Celtic earlier this season 4-1 in both games i.e. 8-2 on aggregate (also in the Europa League).

well, that gives some insight into why Gerrard played a bit differently to his usual style. Even in his press conference after the game, he admitted that they purposefully took a bit more time to play their game.

For Rangers to progress, I think Gerrard will try making it a cagey affair and get this over the line with 1-0 or 2-1. I can not see them go full on high press unless Gerrard has learned something specific to exploit after the first game as they did win the ball high up the pitch few times yesterday.

I’m glad Rivaldo named his son something classically old school after his one nighter with Ronaldinho rather than something like Fred.

Rivaldinho means little Rivaldo. Ronaldinho is little Ronaldo. Or junior. So he named his son after himself, not Ronaldinho.

I was being totally serious but now have seen the error in my ways 🙁
Btw, how come then Ronaldinho’s named the as so since his dad's called Joao, should he have not been called Joaodinho instead?

From wikipedia

Ronaldo de Assis Moreira was born on 21 March 1980 in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.[1][4] His mother, Miguelina Elói Assis dos Santos,[5] was a salesperson who studied to become a nurse.[6] His father, João de Assis Moreira, was a shipyard worker and footballer for local club Esporte Clube Cruzeiro (not to be confused with the larger Cruzeiro Esporte Clube).[7]

Ronaldo's football skills began to blossom at the age of eight, and he was first given the nickname Ronaldinho – "inho" meaning small – because he was often the youngest and the smallest player in youth club matches.[9]

I don't know. Could just be like a nickname. Pele and Kaka are nicknames. I forget what they mean exactly, but I think it's something like babytalk - something like calling yourself "Googoo Gaga" over here.

Or it could be that he was just called Ronaldinho as a kid growing up and it stuck. Like calling someone little Johnny all his life or something.
