Oh - I didn't see that. I do think however that it's worthy of its own thread (see Ross!).

I think it's worthy to highlight how Sterling has been quietly been excellent this year, and despite all the hype surrounding Januzaj, Sterling should be actually getting more. Thankfully he isn't though - and Rodgers is managing him brilliantly. I think Ryan said it after the Everton game - but we have a potentially quality quality winger on our side for the next decade plus.

He is a sure fire addition for the England WC team. I'd expect to see him and Lallana on either wing.

as of now, Sterling is better than Janujaz with everything except his shooting and a direct end prodúct. Well I want to see how he does against Arsenal

I thought he was pretty shit last season when everyone was raving about him, but he has improved this season no doubt, and should be in the squad for the world cup.
My only concern with him is his final ball and his bollocks finishing. Too often he passes a ball or crosses a ball to areas where he hopes someone might be, instead of where someone is. That is unlike that little twat at the scum, who seems to pass to other players on a consistent basis in the final 3rd.
When he's on the ball though, defenders have a nightmare with him due to his blistering pace and direct running, which pushes the defence right back and out of shape, we just need to find a better way to exploit the situations when that happens.
considering the positions he gets himself into this season, he really should have a few more goals to his name. Coutinho is just as guilty. He seems to lean back when he's shooting, whereas Sterling seems to flap when he gets through instead of relaxing.

In what way is Januzaj better in that department? They've both scored and assisted the same amount, so where is the difference?

I'm not saying you're wrong, but what makes you say it?

I was myself surprised to see all the stats in favour of Sterling, but I always feel that Sterling's shots are tame, less powerful compared to Januzaj, off course which are not covered in the stats. Another thing is, Januzaj is able to create space for him to shoot from outside box, or from inside the box and I think that is one of the reason which his shots/game are high and another reason is he doesnt have SAS around because Sterling tends to give it to SAS instead of himself shooting which suits perfectly to our current tactics.

Sterling doesn't dive like it's going out of fashion either. Like Brizzle said, if Hodgson had an iota of sense, he'd be starting with Lallana and Sterling on either wing.

I believe "tackles won" measures only the tackles that Sterling went into looking for the ball, not those when someone tackled him. The number of physical challenges on him that he has survived and come out with the ball must blow Januzaj's away. It's the most astounding aspect of his progression to me given his wiry frame. Alberto and Aspas could do with the same regime that the coaching staff prescribes to Sterling.

Ibe should watch this clip everyday. This is the standard he must aspire to, and the level that Inglethorpe and Rodgers have now shown they're capable of taking a promising youngster to. And Sterling isn't even the finished article. Ibe must be itching for some action now and Rodgers could just be nursing his hunger before unleashing him. Well, that's what I hope anyway. 🙂

.

A lot of the stuff in that thread is, and nobody discusses anything in it (Which is why I'm absolutely against those catch all threads)

Its slowly slowly with Sterling, his end product was non existant but its improving now, slowly but surely hes getting there, if he does add the goals/assists to his game he will be some player.

Hes stopped the running straight into players aswell, certainly doesn't do it anywhere near as much as he used to anyway, Coutinho seems to of picked up that habit lately.

well another thing is, SAS or coutinho dont have so much belief in Sterling as of now, Sterling also needs runners in front or diagonal to him, then it will be explosive dynamite for any team to handle. In many games, when sterling runs with the ball, he should have someone to feed , not always cross or wayward passing to build attack. The one nice recent exmple will be, against Baggies, he ran with the ball and made a small through ball to Sturridge which was nicely saved by their keeper. Sterling doesnt need to do Coutinho-thread ball, he himself can pass though a needle, so we need to better utilise him now as he is progressing.

Have a horrible feeling Hodgson might not take him to the WC.

It would be a mistake not to, his pace alone will scare the shit of teams, remember when Capello jibbed off Walcott last WC, what a fuck up that was, his pace was missed badly.

How many wingers do managers usually take?

Townsend will surely be a cert just on his qualification heroics, Ox was in the Euro squad and back in the Arsenal team doing well, Adam Johnson is getting harder to ignore by the week, is there anyone else? Zaha you never know if he tears it up at Cardiff.

If he takes 3 of those then Sterling should surely get in, if its 2 then it wouldn't suprise to see Roy bottle it.

On merit sterling deserves to go. Townsend hasn't played in ages and doesn't look like he's gonna get a look in anytime soon so i don't see how he'll be going to the world cup. He last played 90 mins in November and after that just made a couple of sub appearances. Ox has been out for a year and is definitely not playing better than sterling and johnson is making a late surge. But out of all of them its sterling who's the man in form. But personally i want sterling to not go as uncle woy will only waste him and get him injured.

I think Hodgson has a selection dilemma ahead of him to be honest.
He's such a timid, old school wanker that every fibre of his being will want to play Milner, Lampard, Cole, Hart etc. which we all know doesn't work.
Instead he should go to this WC with a youthful team as preparation for the European championship.
Sterling, Henderson, Flanagan, Sturridge, Lalana, Oxlade Chamberlain, Wilshere, Butland, Baines, Townshend.
Keep Rooney, Gerrard, Terry and Cahill as experienced spine.
Energy and experience.

Yeah you make it sound even more stupid if he wasn't to make the cut, thinking about it though form never really seems to be much of a priority when picking an England squad, lots of players picked on rep just like this squad will be, can't believe Lampard is even in the equation, partly explains why it always ends like shite.

Watching and wanting the Liverpool players to do well in the England team is the only thing i really care about these days watching England so i hope he does go.

This is the second Liverpool forum i have seen a Sterling vs Januzaj thread on today. Seriously why is everyone obsessed with Januzaj?
If people are going comparing stats I would like to see how Sterling compares to established quality players like Pedro, Hazard or a Robben not a no mark kid in his first season in the league who has played even less games than him.
