Torres out but Scot starts
30th Nov 2010 - Latest News

Fernando Torres will not travel to Bucharest for Thursday's Europa League clash with Steaua - while at the back Danny Wilson will deputise for the injured Jamie Carragher.

Our Spanish striker is to be rested ahead of Monday's Barclays Premier League encounter with Aston Villa.

Those who will definitely start include 18-year-old Wilson, whose only appearance since signing from Rangers this summer came in the League Cup defeat to Northampton.

He will partner Sotirios Kyrgiakos at the back - and the pair are likely to be joined in defence by Fabio Aurelio and Martin Kelly.

Hodgson told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Martin Kelly and Danny Wilson will start against Steaua Bucharest and it's a great opportunity for them to stake a claim to be in the first team.

"Not being able to take the points we deserved against Tottenham has kept us in a mid-table position so the next games coming up are going to be very important.

"I've got to be careful not to risk too many of the players I want out on the field against Aston Villa.

"Torres won't travel. I can leave maybe as many as six or seven players who I expect to start against Aston Villa out of the team.

"It means on paper I'm taking a weakened team, but I believe people like Joe Cole, Ryan Babel, Milan Jovanovic, Danny Wilson, Christian Poulsen and Jonjo Shelvey are more than capable of doing a good job for Liverpool Football Club."

Dani Pacheco is also expected to feature in Bucharest, where a point would ensure we progress to the knockout stages.

No mention of Ngog. Wonder if he's rested as well. Guess its Babel up front? Would be good for Jovanovic if he gets a chance to play as forward.

Didn't he pick up an injury at the weekend ?

Opps forgot about that. No news on how long he'll be out for?

So now we don't have any strikers at the club at all?

Christ...

LFC team v Rapid: Reina, Kelly, Kyrgiakos, Wilson, Aurelio, Poulsen, Shelvey, J. Cole, Pacheco, Jovanovic, Babel

This is the team according to another site. Maybe Babel can actually prove that he has a future as a striker...

Considering Pacheco is being "groomed" for the wing swap him and Babel and lets see if the useless bellend can give us one good performance.

That line up actually makes me excited about the game!
[/quote]

Yeah me too, because it's giving us the chance to watch (what feels like) a new team, more or less.

I hope the young lads do well anyway and give Roy something to think about, I'm not convinced by the prospect of Soto for the next few months and I do like him, but he won't carry us through all those games and ultimately I doubt he's good enough to either.

Babel's on the right in that line-up and I think that could be his best position. The swap I'd like to see is Pacheco and Jovanovic, to give Jovanovic a chance in HIS true position for a change.

Thirded.

I really think Wilson can step up. I'm a bit excited actually about this game. It will be Babel upfront though.

Not sure about excited. But it should be interesting, in a pre-season-game kind of way.

Fernando Torres, Dirk Kuyt, Raul Meireles, Glen Johnson and Paul Konchesky will be rested and remain behind at Melwood.

Daniel Pacheco returns to the squad, while reserves right-back John Flanagan is in the first-team set-up for the first time.

Liverpool's youngest ever player Jack Robinson also makes the party.

Liverpool squad: Pepe Reina, Brad Jones, Martin Hansen, Fabio Aurelio, Joe Cole, Milan Jovanovic, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Ryan Babel, Lucas, Danny Wilson, Christian Poulsen, Jonjo Shelvey, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Pacheco, David Ngog, Martin Kelly, Nathan Eccleston, John Flanagan, Jack Robinson.

The two probable line ups doing the round:

Liverpool (4-4-2): Reina; Kelly, Kyrgiakos, Skrtel, Wilson; Cole, Lucas, Poulsen, Jovanovic; Babel, N'Gog.

Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Reina; Kelly, Kyrgiakos, Wilson, Aurelio; Lucas, Poulsen; Shelvey, Cole, Jovanovic; Babel.

2nd one should be it?
