We were the better team....

City are over rated by other teams, commentators and journalists.

We need more teeth

Downing is distinctly average - Maxi is better currently

Henderson is tentative confidence a huge factor

Lucas is just playing out of his skin, I can't believe how much he has blossomed under KD

Defense was immense.. bar Enrique who fluffed a LOT.

Reina was MOTM

Suarez is our only flair player

10 years we've been looking for a winning winger. Still no luck finding one

We played the league leaders with Adam, and Lucas in the middle, with No Stevie G or Carra, we drew, we should have won, and we are ticked off about it..

How's that for progress?

KK is some manager. But he waits so fecking long for subs to come on.

Carroll shows he wants to make a go of this, stupid tackle and well taken header. Unlucky. Why did he not have more support at the end?

The good:

Agger and Skrtel: rock solid once again. they're playing really, really well.

Adam and Lucas: dominant, good on the ball and full of running. brilliant.

The bad:

Downing - bang average, we need better.

Henderson - a young kid nowhere near ready to play from the start against a team like City.

Overall:

Should have won, but we went toe to toe with the best side in the league and did ourselves proud. More than happy with the performance, slightly frustrated with the result.

I might have another go at this later but some of that is rubbish spidey.

Overrated; sure, if the league leaders with some of the best attacking talent I've seen from one team is over rated then their over rated.

Reina was pretty good but MOTM - not a chance in hell.

Lucas hasn't just blossomed under Kenny; he's been doing most of this for the last 18 months. About time you caught up with it cause you've been missing some excellent performances till now.

Would've thought you'd be ecstatic Gary with 4 point from 6 after playing Chelsea and City.
[/quote]

Did i say i wasn't mate?

They've won nothing mate, yet. Commentators speak as if they are leagues above. They aren't. Good yes. Over rated? Yes as well. Splitting hairs we are I guess.

Overall, happy with result, disappointed with our league position which I think is not a fair reflection

4 points from 6 does look good mind you Gary. Can't complain!

Lucas and Adam were simply immense.

Overall we played well. On another day, we would have destroyed Citeh.

I think it's a given now that all goalies that come to Anfield suddenly plays with superhuman abilities.

Spidey didn't make this thread Wiz.

Ha, nice thread name localny btw, I was waiting for Neil's customary post match thread.

I've said a lot of my thoughts in the match thread. Downing improved as the game went on, Lucas was a beast, Suarez tried to pull a rabbit out of a hat for us, Carroll was unlucky not to win the game, both keepers we're and are excellent.

On a side note, Maxi should have started. I think Henderson benefits coming on as a sub for now. He didn't do anything wrong but he still needs to be eased into things.

Impressed with the back four, we have a pacy back line now don't we. Liking the team morale and spirit we are showing. Players fighting for each and working as a team to hunt in packs.

I thought I would start it for him ILD, since he's so reliable usually 😉. All good points mate.

When you think about it, we've probably had one god awful performance this year... SPURS. We have definitely moved into a new era on the field now. Time will tell if this is good enough to propel us into the top four. If Newcastle stumble next few games, it'll be us in 5th, with Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool vie-ing for third and forth. If we can develop the aversion to draws from last season under KK, second half of the season should go well. And again, no Carra or Gerrard and we're ticked off to be losing to Man City (with Adam and Lucas in midfield?). I mean, does that defy expectations or what

Where are the doommongers who were insisting we were going to get marmalised by the Chavs and Citeh?

*red face*

We should most definetly be upset about not winning, as we should have. BUT all in all I thought it was a great performance. We kept going and played some great stuff at times. We were incredibly low, but look what has happened to other teams who City have faced away this season. An average of 4 goals or something.

We are getting there, shame we are drawing some games we should be winning. But this team will only improve as the season moves on. 4 points against Chelsea and City is something I would have said hell yes to a week ago.

The real tests starts now with Fulham and QPR, they'll define our CL chances imho.

Was just going to say this. The last two matches haven't really told us anything new. We have always been capable of getting results against the bigger sides.

Our finishing is still an issue, but if we can now go on and get a few wins against some of the "easier" sides we'll actually be in with a chance of a high finish in the league.

Skrtel and Agger's third or fourth consecutive game where both where very good?

Looks better by the game that duo and personally I'm very surprised with Skrtel's displays of late. I've not been his biggest fan but I believe he's making much better use of his key attributes than I've remembered seeing from him in the past. Hasn't made any mistakes of note either.

Carra will find it very tough to get back in when they play like this (and are fit).

Johnson and Enrique has got some similarities. Both great forward and questionable at times in the back. Enrique with his passing and Johnson with his positioning. But having said that I wouldn't swap them with any other wing-back duo in the league. Love them and what they offer going forward.

Lucas and Adam are improving week in week out and espcially Lucas is getting closer to the player we all hoped him to be. He's like a good wine this lad, improving tellingly with age.

I think people are being harsh on Henderson, he played well and linked the play well a few times. Kuyt also had a hand in alot of the good we did, it's just a shame that he was on the end of the pass from Suarez for the chance that eventually came to Adam, someone with a bit more pace might have got one-on-one.

Pluses:

Reina - swept up everything well & was dominant, especially for the chance when Adam underhit his header back to him leaving Aguero one on one.

Adam & Lucas - excellent again. I think Lucas won every header he challenged for and played the ball well, as did Adam

Agger & Skrtel - ditto. Agger covering for a hapless Enrique today and Skrtel covering ground to cover for a too often vacant Johnson, they were both dominant, particularly Agger in the second half.

Henderson - Some good stuff though I'd like to see him take games by the scruff a bit more.

Kuyt - Worked his bollocks off again & linked the play well.

Suarez - Tireless as always.

Negatives:

We were our own worse enemies at times with back passes - dangerous against a nippy frontline like Citeh's.

Fullbacks - Enrique was sloppy today though he made some good runs, Johnson was good going forward but left too many gaps for Lucas and Skrtel to have to continuously deal with.

Downing - Came into it but was a bit sloppy like Enrique and is snatching at chances.

Overall, a good performance & it showed the strides we've made under KK, we look like a side to be taken seriously.

I don't how in the real world that we all have to live in anyone can claim Pepe was MOTM.

Lucas haters do you think?

Someone who respects two if not three big decisions / responses he made today I guess. Without rapid reaction to the aguero opportunity we'd have been two goals to the worse or even the way he held up silva. Lucas had a great game probably better than reina but i came away from the game grateful for pepe. Allow people to be excitable lads jaysus - suddenly respect for pepe is dissing lucas?

We aren't clinical enough and lack that critical winning character... KILLER INSTINCT

Agger and Skrtel are rock solid, long may it continue. Suarez need to get goals. That's needs corrections. He needs help upfront and is isolated up front on his own.

Magic and Enrique offer us. A good attacking platform and get about well. We can improve as a defensive unit.

I really don't think he's capable of that. I don't really rate Shelvey all that much but I think he's just as talented as Henderson. Only millions upon millions cheaper.

I wonder if Bellers would have been used today if not for the tragedy? The way we played, but with one more player with lightning pace alongside Suarez running behind the defense could have done serious damage.
Their defenders were fcuking shitting themselves when Suarez either had the ball or was making runs away from it. We just need to take the burden off him just that little bit, whether it be with speed (Bellers) or height (Andy) so he has the chance to perform at an even higher level.

I've really warmed to Adam over the last few games and enjoy watching him play . He may not be world class but he's looked very good now in games against Chelsea and City so can more than hold his own against other big players . Hopefully he keeps getting better .

Agger , bar one loose moment , looked great today . Reminds me of his form during his 1st full season , when for me he was very special .Just Please stay fit !.

Ok i was really disappointed that Maxi was dropped and i thought in the first half we showed them too much respect.
That second half of football was dynamic and wonderful though. We totally outplayed them and that spine that i spoke about last week (reina, Agger, Skrtel, Adam, Lucas and Suarez) was fucking astonishing.

My overall thoughts are that we are better than our league position suggests. We have played as well as or better than United, Arsenal, City and Chelsea. We can do some damage in this league this year. We need to show this grit against the crap teams too.
I hope we go on a run now. I really do.

I think I agree with your statement of Adam not being world class. But only if world class is something only reserved to the likes of Ronaldo, Messi, Gerrard, etc.

If a midfielder can start regularly for a club like Liverpool, face two of the most expensively assembled clubs in the league and come out on top, doesn't that then mean that he's as good as those he faced? I think he was great. Fantastic. Lucas even better, but they both did their own jobs admirably. I think our midfield pair is doing just as well as any other midfield pair in the league at the moment.

well, that was a hugely entertaining match 🙂

okay;

1. lucas
I've said we should pick and chose when lucas plays but against the likes of man city home or away lucas' name is one of the first names on the team sheet and today he didn't disappoint. excellent performance from lucas.

2. adam
there were a lot of people that said we should steer well clear in the summer and I didn't get this view point because every time I saw him last season he was excellent. for liverpool he is getting better and, sees the whole pitch, picks out brilliant through balls virtually every game, great set pieces. reminds me a little danny murphy which isn't a put down.

3. agger and skrtel
are getting better with every game, rock solid. an excellent defensive partnership. skrtel especially 'seems' more confident in the absence of carra, rather that is because he feel he has more freedom or because carra scares him shitless, never the less I think this duo has the potential to be the best in the league and both are relatively quite young still.

4. our finishing
well, I don't know if that was down to us being prolifigate or hart (the CUNT!) having an absolute stormer. there seems to a string of keepers this season having MOTM performances against us, are they that good or should be we doing better with how we place the ball?

5. downing
if it wasn't for craig's knees I think downing would be joining carrol on the bench. the guy is well and truly in a slump and can't buy a goal or an assist. I think the tuesday game is the only reason bellamy or maxi didn't get the nod.

6. kuyt
struggling for form currently but provided good movement and was always a willing runner, didn't give any city player time on the ball. I guess if you are in poor formyet till getting selected all you can do is keep trying and eventually it will go for you (as it usually does for kuyt in the spring). personally I would start maxi ahead of him, maxi can't stop scoring AND will provide the movement and intelligence kuyt does.

7. suarez
I thought suarez was excellent today but just didn't get that lucky bounce to give him a clear site of goal. pleasing that his wayward shots aren't effecting his confidence to try things.

8. henderson
selected to give another body in midfield and give city another barrier to pass through, did well enough, rarely gave the ball away, worked back and did his best to support the attackers. I've kinda accepted that jordan is one for the future and even though the thinking of buying english was so the layers could hit the ball floor I think jordan will be a slow burn until his is confident enough to try new things rather than going with the safe option everytime.

9. fullbacks
eager to get forwards and support the attacks, this pushed city back because we were left exposed a few time with agger and skrtel covering runs. dzeco(sp) almost made us pay with the acres of space he had to run into with the fullbacks gone awol. well, no guts no glory seeing as johnson got the winning goal last week.

10. carroll
35m is a hella lot of money and he most be frustrated at his lack of starts but he is a great option to bring off the bench espeically with city defending deep when reduced to 10 men. was so so close to grabbing the headline is 'THE CUNT!' hadn't have pulled off a top draw save.

all in all I guess a point against the champions elect is a good result but I'm always disappointed at dropped points at home.
good tactics from kenny and flooding the midfield certainly stopped city playing (although the dominated the opening few minutes).
