"If only I'd contributed something to the cause..."

He did, his ball in, eventually found it's way to INSUA (I Mean INIESTA!), and now he's a World Cup winner. Now, we all wish he had scored a goal, and contributed more BUT it is positive, and it takes the pressure off, and the need for such a marvellous player to "WIN SOMETHING".. might buy us a season at most, unless we invest heavily.

Maybe the world cup win comes as a blessing, it might just inspire Torres to stay at Liverpool.
His comment after winning Euro 2008 was:
- We will win the premier league.

No wonder they won... they had a sneaky Argie on the team... not a very good one, mind! 😉

Ha! Yes his shit cross eventuallybounced around and someone else put it in.

He looks 17 in that.

He played in every game he did enough to feel he deserves his medal.

Incidently I would have dropped Pedro after greedy bastard didn't pass to Torres wide open 8 yards out.

He knew if Torres scored from the bench he would start the final.

Well spotted Brother! Another reason to limit the overseas players, - they mash into one on a late Sunday night!

Agreed, completely selfish move, with no logic behind it beyond what you suggest. I despise that kind of player. Me, me me!

I agree with your overall point, but you are wrong on this one. Why would Torres scoring an easy side footer mean that his fitness levels had improved?

Anybody else notice the Liverpool towel draped across his shoulders? THAT is positive indeed!

I did noticed it RQ but it could mean nothing much except it could have been used to wipe off some mud and sweat after having wallowed on the grass for so long!

I'm guessing Pepe put it there, but as long as it's not photoshopped, it has to be a good sign. Doesn't it?

Unless it's a parting gift; "I dedicate this to you and thanks for everything..."

Is it just me or is something wrong with this picture. Someone doesn't fit in...

Fernando Torres dons Liverpool scarf in Spain's World Cup party amid fears he'll quit for Chelsea

Liverpool received a huge boost in their bid to hold on to Fernando Torres after the striker was pictured with a Reds scarf draped around his neck in the World Cup celebrations.

Torres was spotted in the jubliant dressing room with the Liverpool scarf on his shoulders as he cradled the World Cup trophy in the aftermath of their victory over Holland in Johannesburg.

Barclays Premier League rivals Chelsea are desperate to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer as they attempt to take advantage of Liverpool's failure to qualify for the Champions League.

The champions have already lodged a formal £40million bid for Torres, who has also attracted interest from Manchester City and Barcelona.

But his gesture could be viewed as an act of commitment to Liverpool as fears heighten over his future.

The Liverpool website certainly interpreted the pictures as a sign of him staying at the club. In an article headlined 'Best pic you'll see all year', it started: 'Fernando Torres showed football fans across the globe how much he loves Liverpool by parading the World Cup while wearing a Reds scarf.'

Meanwhile, Torres is set to discover how long he will be sidelined with the groin injury he appeared to suffer in the final.

Although Torres was left reeling in agony on the pitch after pullin up in extra-time, he was later spotted walking freely in the celebrations.

David Villa believes Fernando Torres would never join Manchester City but feels Chelsea and Barcelona are "real options" for the striker.

David Villa believes Fernando Torres may want to move on

After missing the end of the season with a knee injury, Torres struggled for form at the World Cup and picked up a left adductor injury in the dying moments of the victory over Netherlands.

His fitness will be assessed in the coming days but this injury - as well as the image of Torres wearing a Liverpool scarf as he celebrated Spain's success - has dampened speculation he could move away.

Barcelona striker Villa, though, says Torres is driven by success and feels a move to Chelsea or even Camp Nou could still be on the cards.

"I am not sure where his future lies, but he knows like me he must win trophies at club level," he said. "He isn't money-focused so he would never join Manchester City but, sure, Barcelona and Chelsea would be real options for him.

"He has proven he can score goals in England and Chelsea are the number one team there at the moment, so I suppose it's the option that makes the most sense.

"He has been fully focused on the World Cup but in the back of his mind he knows he needs to be competing for the very highest honours and, if Liverpool can't do it, he will have to move."

Whilst Villa didn't need to come out and say this publicly there is the chance that having spent over a month in Torres company he may only be passing on what he has been told by the man himself

This from the guy that was seemingly happy to retire at a fucked Valencia and win nothing at club level?

Interesting.

It's like all the Spanish players now think they should go back and play their amazing brand of football at Barca/Madrid and knowing Torres won't go Madrid he has to go Barca
