So who is this Ojo dude then?

Hey all - I'd appreciate a little heads up from some of 6CM's learned souls about this lad Ojo. I admit to being not arsed (that much) about anyone other than the first team but love hearing about new young talent coming through. Indulge a lazy sod and give me the low-down. Is he as mint as the papers say? I read an article today that say he's blazing guns at Wigan on loan. 🙂 Cheers

17 year old, 5'10 with blistering pace. Signed from MK Dons, he's also scored two goals in four appearances for England Under 18's. Going to be a gem.

The more pressing issue for me is, why are we signing all these young players and no one actually knows how to pronounce their names? Can, Ibe and now Ojo.

Personally I think he's some way behind Ibe and Sinclair in terms of development. And in terms of potential I think Harrry Wilson has got more to offer. But Ojo is good. Very fast, decent technique and a rapidly improving eye for goal, he's going to be exciting but has a lot still to learn.

The key thing that really impresses me about Ojo is just how easily he's been able adjust to and conquer new levels. There was an 18 month period before last summer when he flattered to deceive a bit for the u18s and could be very inconsistent, but something just seems to have clicked with him this season. Perhaps for the first time he actually felt under pressure or something, but he took to u21 football completely fluently, and it's been the same on loan in the championship. Even Ibe struggled with that step up.

He's a hell of a talent and if he wants to be a first team player for us then he will be.

Saw a story linking Sinclair to Wigan on loan aswell.

How is Wilson doing? Saw his goal vs Everton. Quality.

Wilson's doing very well. There's something of Owen in his cool confidence. I honestly think he's ready for a ten minute cameo this season. His pace is great and he's equally good at setting things up and scoring.

Shame he will never get to use his eye for goal as a left wing back.

How good is Sinclair?

I've seen a few reports and vids and he looks the show, but can someone (Macca, etc) who watches the resinho's more often than me give us the lowdown...

I think Wilson is improved version of mini Bale. Improved as in, he is not headless as Bale at Madrid. I think the styles are similar.

Any chance that comparison comes about because they are both Welsh and left-footed. No never.

Speaking of, Bale is getting blasted in the Real Madrid mouthpiece today. Would prefer him not to come back to this league. He was phenomenal for Spurs his last year when they built the attack around him playing centrally.

I think Sinclair is really set to kick on now. His injury was obviously a set back, and it took a while physically to get back to his best, but now he looks excellent. He was always unusually tactically mature and adaptable - so when Ibe came to the club he easily switched from playing in the centre to making runs either side to create space for Ibe - and his goalscoring gets better and better. He still has some work to do with his pressing and defensive duties, but in attacking terms he's progressing impressively and could come on off the bench to replace anyone from Sterling, Markovic, Ibe or even Sturridge (more of an ask, that, of course) for the last part of a match. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't make a breakthrough next season.

So that's Sinclair, Ojo, Wilson, Ibe all potentially 1st teamers in the next 12 months? Sweet!

There's still Canos and Brannagan as well. And Kent, whom nobody ever seems to ask about - I do think he's going to be one to watch. Injured right now, but in terms of speed, skill and physique, he's every bit as good as - if not more consistent than - the likes of Ojo and Sinclair, in my opinion.

But I'm not sure 12 months is the right time line to expect some of these guys to start featuring. Maybe some of them will go on loan for the most part of the next season (or even two), as they play in positions in which we're currently pretty well stocked in.

Thanks @studsup - Another one to keep my eye on. The future is so bright I simply gotta wear shades.

There's a lot of overlap in terms of where these players most like to play, which could mean we'll have a dazzling range of options for a fluid attacking line, but will more probably mean that we keep two or three and sell two or three more for a big profit, which is what should be the result of a good youth set up. My only tiny concern so far is that the emphasis on youth teams at all levels is on developing technique and tactical awareness rather than on fostering a competitive spirit, which is okay to an extent, but we're now getting the managers of different age levels making a point of saying they don't even look at their respective league tables and just concentrate on quality of play. Personally I think that's a little too far. The players do tend to lack a bit of urgency is some games, and to get into the first team they'll need to really scrap, so I think we should push them a wee bit more when it comes to relishing winning games.

Rodgers does the same thing. He always refers to and focuses on the performance rather than the result. Its a cheap ploy to reduce the pressure on the players' minds, because it's easier to just worry about performing well rather than telling yourself you have to win. All well and good until we are faced with a must win game away from home. Hence Besiktas.

Cheers for that.
