Naaaa Ross is fully paid up DA now.
Hes one of us.
Unless he's trying to bring you down from the inside...

Wouldn't be at all surprised if he trys to get Poulsen.

I think he tried to sign him at every club he was at and was finally successful at Liverpool >🙁
Might depend on the Pouls's wage demands.

How long is the deal he is on with us?

edit: just checked, two year left 🙁

What we spend is largely immaterial.

A bigger priority is ensuring the players we sign will be talented enough and right for this club.

Its one thing listing out possible sales though and another thing actually selling them

Players that are talented enough to play for this club are likely to be expensive. Ergo, what we have to spend is crucial.

And also how much we receive for some of the players isn't that important. Most important thing is just to get rid of them and their wages. For example Jova, if he's on reported 70k/wk, costs us over £3.5m/yr.
I know we've had a few of these, but I can't be bothered looking them up. I think these are fairly conservative estimates.

The Probables:

Aqua -11m
Poulson -1.5m?
Joe Cole -3.5m?
Koncheskey -1.5m?
Jova -1.5m?
N'Gog -4.5m?
Insua -2m
No way will we lose 11mil when we get rid of Aqua, the rest looks right though.
Surely we get more than 1.5 mil for Jova?
Didn't some German team bid 7 mil in January?
Without meaning to seem abrupt, who in the name of all that is holy would pay 7m for a 30 year old who has only proven himself at the dizzying heights of the Belgian league?

There is always a sucker waiting to be ripped off, for instance juve were able to offload the ageing poulsen to a European giant for 5m...

Wolfsburg bid 6 million in January but that was Steve Mclaren in fairness.
Jova must be fairly highly rated by some coaches in Europe considering Milan were in the running for him when we signed him.
Also he sorta boosted his profile by scoring in the World Cup.
1.5 mil is just a bit skimpy for a Serbian international even if he is in the twighlight of his carrer.

Think Aqua is 16 million Euros, though thats over 3 years
was Purslow really capable of doing a deal so bad that not only did we sell the player at a considerable loss just as he was looking fit but also allow them to spread the fucking payments?

According to a report but I'm not convinced it actually happened. I imagine it's very hard to offload him or at least to end up with any money left over after we subsidy his wages.

Yup, pretty much.

Although we are looking at it from hindsight; we paid 20 million Euros for a crock who couldnt play for ages, and when he did 2 managers preferred Lucas to him. The fact that we're getting 16 million back for a player who's subsequently done well whilst on loan is almost genius, if you look at it that way.

aye, the bad deal was the orginal signing - £14m looks like good business to me, and only a small loss on what's generally considered to be one of the worst signings in our recent history has to be a blessing. the problem isn't the ~£3m loss, it's whether we actually get the £14m in the first place, which i personally doubt we will. it'll probably be more like £10m imo.

Hodgson didn't actually play him, other than a couple of preseason games. He was getting shipped whether Roy liked it or not. Purslow wanted him gone. It wasn't genius in any shape or form. Looking at it with foresight, I was hugely excited to see a player who had come into form and fitness after a long recuperation period, and looking forward to us finally exploiting his talent.

I can see where you're coming from; I think he's a great talent, and I'm still hoping he decides to come back, which is very unlikely since he's playing well in Juventus and he's happy there.

I get the impression though that Hodgson didn't want him either, which is why he got shipped out..Your post suggests that Hodgson might have wanted to keep him but that it ws Purslow who wanted him gone..that doesnt seem very likely, Doc.

Considering everything was being negotiated without Roy at the start of the season I think it very likely. He had no hand in the Cole signing, the Torres/ Reina negotiations, or apparently in Purslow's attempts to sell Lucas and Insua. He might not have fancied him either, but the decision had been made without him.

We won't sell N'gog in my opinion.

I think at the very least he'll get loaned out. He needs to play and he is too old for the reserves.

AC Milan have joined the chase for Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani.

The 26-year-old remains hopeful of securing a permanent switch to Juventus, having impressed during a season-long loan spell back in his homeland.

But Serie A leaders Milan have entered the race for Aquilani as a replacement for playmaker Andrea Pirlo who himself is expected to join Juve on a free transfer this summer.

Chelsea, Real Madrid and Aquliani's boyhood club Roma all lead the chase with Juve for Pirlo, which could spell an end to any plans to keep the Liverpool man at the Stadio Olimpico.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are closely monitoring Blackburn defender Phil Jones ahead of a potential summer tussle with Manchester United for his signature.

Manager Kenny Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli observed the 19-year-old centre-back during Rovers' home defeat to Manchester City on Monday night.

Jones signed a five-year contract last month with Rovers but remains on the radar of the Reds and United as well as Arsenal and Chelsea in the hope that he can be prised away from Ewood Park.

This Phil Jones link seems to be gathering pace, I'm guessing the Bolton lad is one choice and Phil Jones is another option.

Aquilani sold for £14m and we bring in Charlie Adam, or we just see if we can get Aquilani back here?

I don't think we need Adam now. He will be a Barry like signing and probably get pushed out left anyway.

Spiering, Stevie, Lucas and Ming are a good enough 4 for CM, Utds 4 are Scholes, Carrick, Fletcher and Anderson

Let spend all our money on more goals/assists as that is what the table says we are lacking

Mancs have scored 71
Ars 66
Chavs 64
Us 51

With Andy and Luis plus Dirk doing well we are catching we just need to supply more assists from the left and from full backs plus quality cover.

we are not far away folks
