So Stoke (H)

Credit to Ming - except for the flappy corner at the end, he was excellent. 2-3 vital saves and seemed to command things better. Kolo was superb. Keeps his place. Reminds me of Carra's return in 2012-13.

Yep, both for his play and for his leadership.

Not sure about the Coutinho sub but, other than that, a very good 2nd half.

I'm sure some commentators and pundits are going to go on about how unlucky Stoke were. They did hit the bar and had an effort cleared off the line so they certainly played their part but some of our play in the 2nd half was reminiscent of last season. If Allen scores his huge chance then we've got a worldly to talk about.

Been a while since I've seen two such contrasting halves. Both teams were immensely better for the 2nd 45.

Oh, and great effort from Johnson for the goal. Getting stapled is no fun but, if you're going to have it happen, in front of the Kop after scoring a great goal for them is probably the place to do it.

Yes, get in, big 3 points. We were much much better 2nd half in attitude and in application, Kolo Lucas Allen and Johnson have played themselves into the side on that performance. Id drop Henderson and Coutinho for Lallana and Can, everybody else as is

Thought Coutinho did pretty well in 2nd half and having more players coming forward helped him a great deal.

Felt a twinge of concern when Lucas went off but he looked utterly wrecked at the time so had to be done.

on reflection we really shouldnt have been hanging on at the end, we had some really good chances in the 2nd half and should have had a couple more. Hopefully its a sign og things to come in terms of movement and attitude.

Cant be bothered to look it up but somebody on here claimed Rodgers had lost the dressing room on the basis of the first 45 min, total bollox, we were all over them 2nd half. That was our best performance since the derby, even the players that didnt play well tried hard, thats a massive improvement on the last 5 weks

Agree with all that.

A lot more heart on display.

Was it that simple?
Was solution always "bench every player you bought this summer"?
Some of the build up play and the chances we created reminded me of how we played last season. Seeing Sterling, Coutinho, Allen, Henderson and Lucas combining was at times beautiful. Lambert even joined in a few times.
Now build on this Brendan!

The defence was solid as well. Enrique wasn't as wank as everyone thinks he is and neither was Johnson.
Toure was easily our best defender though.

Yep, great response in the 2nd half and no sign whatsoever that the players dont believe in Rodgers. That win will give them a huge confidence boost.

Lambert? Last season?

I thought he lost his way a little bit and dipped out of the game as it wore on, he still doesnt look like he has 90 mins in him after 2 years in the prem. Hes a bit of a fair weather player, he looks fantastic on his day but not that effective when its not going his way. He kept going today though, they all did, when Glen Jo is disregarding his own safe the team you know its group effort

I thought Johnson was mostly shite all game, but fair play for the goal. Showed more commitment to the cause than most of the squad today

Johnson was okay like. Not great, but not too bad. Fair play to him for the goal. Showed balls that I didn't know he had. Won a couple of important headers at the back too.

Most important thing is for the team to remember how this felt.

Let's not get carried away - 2nd half wasn't Barca at their best or Madrid or Bayern etc. Still looked a little too open right in the centre IMO.

That said, we went at them with some conviction and some venom in the 2nd half. Movement was much better. Might be a really small thing but, start of the 2nd half, Lucas ran 50 metres to show for the ball on a throw in up their end. We just started to have more room after that.

Still lack a razor sharp edge which would have killed the game off much earlier but some of the interchange, as Modo says, in the final third was really encouraging. Team needs to make sure they build on this for the next match - momentum can start very unexpectedly.

I thought Lambert did good, but he got the same support that Mario gets. Fuck all. Coutinho and sterling seem too intent to run from deep.

Allen bombed up the middle more than I thought he would, so he was great for that

I prefer to see Lambert picked ahead of Balotelli. Lambert may be slow, but he has the football brain that Balotelli lacks.

Gerrard is on the decline, but he is still a valuable asset for the manager to use as he sees fit. If he chooses to start him on the bench that's perfectly OK with me.
Agree completely although I hate the fact that this time in his career has finally come about. A wonderful footballer who's decline should be managed. I guess today was the day that started.
