Slightly Worried About This......

Just read this from an admittedly obscure site but still.......

http://www.givemefootball.com/premier-league/comolli-to-sanction-a-move-for-25m-wing-gem?

Forget the fact that we may or may not be signing 'Bart Simpson' ??? .....

Anyway I'm not sure I like having Comolli giving his 'Approval' to who we sign. Especially in such a public way. I think his blatant role somewhat undermines KK. And I also feel this whole thing could blow up in our faces (In time) - I mean we as Reds know that only one person steers the boat. As soon as two people try and steer - people like Uncle Roy leaves....... I'm not saying that DC is a liability - I'm sure he does some good work. I would say though that if stuff goes on behind the scenes then I'd prefer it stays that way. Just a quick thought though. His name (Comolli I mean) Does appear on the media a lot - Too much for my taste I think.

I dunno maybe I'm being a bit paranoid - Anyone have any thoughts?

Isn't it his (Comolli) job?

I mean my understanding is that Kenny tells Comolli what he needs and Comolli gives his opinion and checks with the scouts. If it all adds up, we make a move.
I'm certain that Suarez was Comollis option and Carroll was Kenny's.

I agree that it should be conducted "behind closed doors".

Erm, how are you just getting around to this now? Did you miss the previous six months or so worth of articles explaining and alluding to his role at Liverpool?

What did you think a Sporting Director does?

Er no I think Suarez was 'on the radar' long before DC got there. Agree about Carrol though.

This from Wiki - On becoming director of football - 'In an interview Comolli stated it covers pretty much the whole football side of running the football club, although he does not get involved in team training or selection'

I dunno man - Maybe I'm just being a bit old school - Does this not send some alarm bells ringing? Too many cooks? ???

I dunno - I thought he might be some glorified scout. I mean that's what he's done in his career. What do you think he does?

For sure 😉 - Do you think Benitez would be right? I personally think he would. Although at the end of the day if everything is going swimmingly then I guess who cares.

I wonder if Bacon face has a 'Director of Football'? Or at least one that seems fit to make public statements!

Not sure why this has been brought up now though? It's been common knowledge for months hasn't it?

Ok Then - Maybe I should have searched for an old thread.

*scurries back into hole*

This fear of Directors of Football is getting tiring . Ok , it can go tits up if you have the wrong people involved in the setup or have a director of football trying to influence the playing side of things (selection etc ) too much . But if the people involved are reasonable and open to discussion then it can work very well ...I mean this kind of setup is used all over Europe and it works well for them ...even the mighty Barca use it and nobody is worried about them.
In fact , one of the ideas behind a good Director of Football is that even if a coach/manager leaves, then the disruption is minimal. That's is what they said about Sevilla a few yrs ago , a few managers moved on , they sold players yet kept putting out great teams because the philosophy from the top was the right one.

I gather he has many other roles and not just player recruitment but obviously it is that side of things that will get the most attention and worries people. Now if he is signing players himself without consulting with Kenny and the coaching team then problems will obviously start . But I hope and believe they are more than aware of this and are smart enough not to go down that route . I expect he will use his scouting network to present players for review for both first team and academy. And In fairness , Kenny has been spotted with him quite often when they are looking at players so obviously has a large input .

Finally, i don't buy into this thing that he name is mentioned too much in the media...from early Feb to just recently there was no mention of what Camolli was up to at all . It's just that we're in transfer season again so of course he is going to be mentioned , especially where lazy journalism is concerned .

We can only judge them on what they've done so far and I believe everyone is content about the January window. Even if we overspent on Carroll, the signings were definitely a step in the right direction. By the end of the summer we'll be able to provide a better judgement, but for now I see little reason to be suspicious or to worry.

As for this player, I don't mind paying a premium for young talented players - but £25M is too much for someone who has proven next to fuck all.

Exactly. I don't particularly believe the link anyway, but £25m should be able to get you established quality in the summer.

This is one of the kids I mentioned who I thought will make it big, 25mil seems abit much but he has the potential to be a star in the future. 10-12mil max though.

Oh well if Zlatan thinks he will make it big...
[/quote]

lol

He is tiny but is meant to be very classy. I've a united supporting friend who loves him and tries to catch Bilbao games to watch him. I doubt we'd pay 25million for him. Sounds a bit steep.

I wonder if he'd bring Javi Martinez with him.

A certain paper is spreading rumours that Dalglish isn't happy about Comolli role in the club. Kenny is supposedly unhappy that Comolli can go out and negotiate with players without his input.
He has therefore demanded a right to veto transfers which has caused some concerns with the american owners.

* For the record I got it from another source.

I think it's bullshit. Kenny has always said that he will honour his contract and that if they decide to go with another manager in the summer he won't complain.
I do think it's weird that he hasn't been offered a new contract though, it's been long enough.

I think it has been scheduled to be announced after the Spurs game, at the ground, for a long time now.

There's not a single quote in that article. I call bullshit too.
I really do hope they're already doing contract negotiations. There's not a single manager in the world that could have done better than Dalglish has done.
Second only in points won since his return, first place being a team assembled via hundreds of millions net, with a champions league winning manager.
Dalglish has been phenomenal. And that's without even playing Gerrard or our first choice back 4.

That's my guess too.

There's not a chance in hell they think they could do better getting anyone else with the resources available; if anything they're probably astonished that he's done as well as he has considering his remit was probably just damage control.

Since Comolli was right next to Kenny wtching this, I'm also sure he has a pretty good idea what would happen if he didnt get the job.
